1968 Classic 4.2 Liter XKE coupe
Miles: 65353 Doors: 2 doors
Transmission: Manual Interior: Black
Engine: 6 - Cyl. Year: 1968
Exterior: Red
Options: Cassette
Vehicle Description: Classic 1968 XKE
This unmistakable icon of the 60's British sports car kingdom will deliver shear driving pleasure as well as a sense of a time gone by.
This particular vehicle was manufactured in a rare time which incorporates some of the Series II changes as well as retaining some of the Series I options. Such items as the Series I covered headlights had been upgraded to the Series II sealed beams by this cars manufacturing date. While other items such as the Series II door mounted arm rests are not present on this model.
Beyond this sports cars rare Series option ensemble, is the fact that it has been owned, stored, maintained and cared for by the same owners for the past 18 years or so.
Vehicle Condition:
Positives: The body of this beauty was totally stripped down, repaired, and rebuilt where necessary in 1994 by a local craftsman known for his exceptional work on Vipers as well as many of the classics we know and love. Once the body was completely straightened and prepared, a deep Red hue was poured over the lines for that perfect sports car look.
The historic in-line six cylinder power plant, sized at 4.2 liters for this manufacture year was totally rebuilt in 2000 to factory specs and topped off with a pristine remanufactured cylinder head to freshen up the driving excitement that this auto screams for. The re-installation of this power plant also included a new clutch for the 4 speed manual transmission.
Many other items have been maintained and or replaced over the past few years to increase the dependability of this daily summer driver, also increasing it’s longevity as a classic sports car.
Brand new period correct Coker Red-Line tires were installed in 2003 just as any red blooded American would have done in 1968. The mufflers along with the chrome tail pipes were replaced in 2002 . The Rack and pinion bushings, inner door panels, brake booster, clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder have been replaced within the last year as well.
The dual Webber side draft carburetors are original and kept in good running condition for easy starts and smooth running. The four speed manually shifted transmission is also in good mechanical order as is the independently sprung rear drive assembly.
Not-so-Positives: Although this beautiful sports car had fresh body work and paint in 1994, those 10 years of age are beginning to show a bit. From a short distance most of the blemishes are not easily seen with the naked eye. There are however a few dings and scratches that come with the years. A few areas where body panels were repaired are beginning to bubble up around the rear wheel wells and the back edge of the doors. Most notable are the dents in the very front nose opening and a scratch and ding on the front passenger portion of the hood. See the pictures for more details.
The interior shows some age but is in good condition cosidering the age. Small things such as the center storage box lid and a gage or two will need attention to be in perfect working order.
The speed-o-meter has not been connected since it was purchased by the current owners. A simple repair can remedy this, but it is noted to clear up any confusion on the odometer reading of 65353mi. Please note that this vehicle has been stored over the majority of it’s last 18 years and only driven during the summer months. This being said, we are confident that the chassis only has a few thousand more miles on it than the odometer reading.
Bonus: Also included with this exceptional purchase is a portion a 1969 XKE 2+2 parts car easily worth a few thousand in parts to the winning bidder. The hood, coupe, doors and most of the interior are still present to help supply replacement parts for any future needs and repairs. All the drive line from the engine to the rear end has been removed and sold. This parts car will most definitely need to be flat bedded for delivery. Pictures of this parts car can be sent via e-mail upon request.
Note: The twin side draft carburetors are actually Zenith/Stromberg units not Webber.
