Sellers description:
1967 Jaguar E-type Coupe | Series 1 4.2 Litre
Presented for your consideration is a wonderful un-restored example, finished in its original Golden Sand Metallic paint scheme and upgraded with sensible performance modifications, which has resided in Northern California’s gentle climate since its delivery in 1967.

I discovered this car in 2006. It had been sitting in dry storage after the second, long-term lady owner had parked it due to a worn clutch. She herself had purchased this E-type in 1976 from its original owner. All three owners, myself included, lived within a 35-mile radius of each other in San Francisco's South Bay Area.

Once purchased, I decided to perform a complete mechanical overhaul, and leave the coachwork and interior as-is. The overall condition of the car was superb, needing nothing more than a detail to bring it up to a very presentable driver standard.

Initially the engine and gearbox were removed, and the undercarriage detailed. All engine components were checked for wear, and upon reassembly the clutch and clutch master cylinder were replaced. To aid in performance and assist with modern-day driving conditions the cylinder head was reconditioned. This involved new valves and guides, and porting and polishing of the head by a renowned Jaguar race mechanic. High-lift camshafts were ordered from Terry’s Jaguar, who also supplied the corresponding carburetor needles and jets. Upon final installation a complete stainless steel exhaust system was fitted, retaining the original Jaguar exhaust manifolds.

Extra horsepower required extra stopping power in the form of a Classic Jaguar brake upgrade. Classic Jaguar provide the finest quality parts available, and their directionally cross-drilled and slotted calipers mated to their legendary Wilwood caliper conversion did the job nicely. Classic Jaguar also supplied the front sway (anti-roll) bar, and this single item transformed the handling beyond any recognition of the stock set-up. Once a set of new Dunlop 205/70/15 SP50 tires were fitted, I was ready to address the cooling system.

The radiator was reconditioned, a new header tank installed along with a thermostatically controlled electric cooling fan, and all new hoses.

Since this work has been completed, I have enjoyed over four thousand trouble free miles, and watched the odometer turn over for the first time. Current mileage is approximately 700, equating to a total original mileage of 100,700. The engine pulls like a freight-train, is well-behaved in traffic, and manages mountain roads with aplomb.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
