Clearly benefitting from expert, single-owner care since late 1978, this 1966 Series 1 4.2-liter E-Type Coupe is a two-owner car that was acquired from its original owner in New Mexico. While having covered just short of 60,000 miles from new, the engine and drivetrain were serviced and repaired as needed approximately 4,000 miles ago by Foreign Traffic of Allison Park, Pennsylvania. Additionally, Foreign Traffic also refurbished the brakes and suspension. Invoices for the work accompany the sale of the car.

In addition to its superior mechanical condition, this Jaguar's sensuous body remains in fine, unrestored condition, with paint, chrome, and trim all presenting nicely. The well-preserved black leather interior is equipped with the original dealer-installed Blaupunkt radio and remains original, with the exception of the carpeting and lower- seating surfaces that were correctly replaced. Lightly used only during dry summer weather and accruing on average a few hundred miles annually, this E-Type has always been properly stored in a climate-controlled environment under the consignor's care. Handsomely presented and very well maintained with low mileage, this Series 1 E-Type is complete with tools, owner's manual, and a recently issued Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate that confirms it is a matching-numbers example.

This particular car is a three-owner example which the current owner purchased in 2014 at Gooding's Amelia Island auction. It has since been comprehensively restored and runs and drives superbly. Finished in its original color combination of carmen red with black interior, the car retains its matching-numbers block, along with an unstamped replacement cylinder head, all of which is confirmed by the included Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate. Also present with the car are the original jack and tool roll, reproduction owner's manual and service poster, service records dating back to 2002, and extensive invoices from the recently completed restoration.

The car presents beautifully overall, thanks to its recent mechanical and cosmetic restoration. The paint was done to high end driver standards, and was applied to a straight and solid body. The doors sit a bit proud at their trailing edges and the hood fit at its trailing edge on the right side is slightly recessed, but otherwise . The rear hatch fits properly and operates well, as does the front clip. The chrome is excellent throughout, as are the lights and glass. The wheels and spinners are in as-new condition and wear Coker redline tires.

The interior is freshly restored to high standards, with excellent leather upholstery and carpets, restored gauges and steering wheel, and rechromed trim and accents. The car has a smaller steering wheel to provide more clearance for taller drivers, as well as aluminum trim on the dashboard and center console in the style of the early 3.8 liter cars. The wool broadcloth headliner was redone to excellent standards and the luggage compartment thoroughly restored as well. The engine compartment is highly detailed and very clean, with polished valve covers and dashpot housings and comprehensively restored ancillaries, front subframe, and suspension components. A thermostatically controlled electric pusher fan is installed ahead of the radiator. The entire undercarriage of the car has been thoroughly restored and is very clean and detailed.

The car runs and drives very well. The electric choke mechanism works properly and the car starts instantly cold or hot. The engine displays good oil pressure and is responsive and tractable, with nice even carburetion once warm. The clutch is progressive and easy to modulate and the gearbox has good synchromesh and well defined gates. The car is fitted with upgraded Wilwood brake calipers and the car stops capably with a high, even pedal. The chassis behaves as it should, with an excellent blend of compliance and control that feels surprisingly modern today, and must have felt downright transcendent in 1961.

The car comes with extensive restoration documentation as well as service records back to 2002, tool roll, jack, knock-off hammer, grease gun, reprint owner's manual and maintenance poster, and JDHT Certificate.

This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I fixed-head coupe that was built in May of 1966 and distributed new in the US through Jaguar Cars of New York. Originally owned in Kansas, the car reportedly remained with a single owner from 1978 until 2014, when it was acquired at auction by the current owner. A refurbishment was completed in August 2019, including a rebuild of the numbers-matching 4.2L inline-six and four-speed manual gearbox. Additional work included a repaint and interior refresh in the original color scheme of Carmen Red over black leather, as well as overhauling the rear end with 3.07:1 gears and refreshing the suspension and braking systems. This E-Type is now offered on dealer consignment in Redwood City, California with an owner’s manual, tool kit, Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, service records dating back to 2002, and a clean Nevada title.

The body was repainted in its factory shade of Carmen Red during the refurbishment, which was performed by British European Motors of Cotati, California between 2016 and 2019. Bodywork addressed uneven panels and previous use of filler, and a weld repair was carried out to correct an old antenna hole. The front frame, firewall, underside, and inside of the bonnet were also repainted. The seller notes that the doors sit proud of the body at their trailing edges.

Polished 15″ wire wheels feature two-eared knock-offs and wear Coker Classic redline tires. A Wilwood front brake kit was installed during the refurbishment, along with braided stainless steel lines. Additional brake system work included replacing the master cylinder, booster, fluid bottle, and inboard rear discs.

The cabin was reupholstered in black leather with matching door panels, sills, dash covering, rear cargo area trim, and carpeting. A new center console was fabricated and accented in aluminum, with matching aluminum on the dash face. A smaller-diameter, wood-rimmed steering wheel was also added. A Blaupunkt radio is mounted in the upper console.

Smiths instrumentation was rebuilt during the refurbishment, including the 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer with inset clock. The five-digit odometer shows 60k miles, just 100 of which have been added during current ownership.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six was rebuilt during the refurbishment with new pistons, rod and main bearings, camshaft bearings, valves, timing chains, a new oil pump, and more as outlined in invoices. The block was hot-tanked and machined, the crankshaft was magnafluxed, the cylinder head was repaired and resurfaced, and the flywheel was resurfaced.

Engine number 7E9182-9 is shown stamped in the block above, matching the number listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. The cylinder head is not stamped with a serial number.

The four-speed manual transmission was also rebuilt, and the rear axle was overhauled and fitted with a 3.07:1 gear set. The front and rear suspension systems were also rebuilt, with the front components powder coated and the rear assembly repainted.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate shows the original numbers and colors, as well as build and dispatch dates.
