Ebay item 7/28/12

Car has a buy it now price of $57,995 for 20 days.

Sellers description:
With a high-quality restoration in the original color combination, this slinky Jag is downright jaw-dropping. You don't need flashy colors when your sheetmetal looks like this, and the Opalescent Silver Gray finish emphasizes the weapons-grade beauty on this E-Type. The two-stage urethane has a lovely glow to it, and on a car of this caliber, you don't cut corners so every square inch was sanded, buffed, and beautifully finished to show standards. The chrome is excellent, too, with a small fortune invested in getting the jewelry to sparkle. Black leather compliments the paint perfectly, and the interior was restored to the same high standards as the bodywork. The seats themselves are form-fitting buckets that are far more comfortable and supportive than they look, and the leather seat covers are accurate reproductions of the originals that show only minor use. The wood-rimmed steering wheel was practically invented by the British, and the 4-speed's shifter is perfectly positioned and falls easily to hand. The instrument panel is full of beautifully restored gauges and correct switchgear, including original toggles, all nicely within reach. A newer AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit has been fitted, but it stows neatly in the original location and is a worthwhile improvement. The cargo area is almost too pretty to use for mere luggage, and hides a full-sized spare underneath the lovely chrome and leather surface. To satisfy American tastes for more power and torque, Jaguar added a 4.2 liter inline-six to the lineup, easily identified by "4.2" badges on the decklid. Widely regarded as the best combination, it's a docile engine that's happy to trundle around town, but will still snarl and rip the sleek coupe to triple-digit speeds in a heartbeat. Inhaling through three side-draft carburetors from a common plenum and a correct gold-painted DOHC head, this cat starts easily and idles correctly thanks to a recent bit of work to get it just right. It's backed by a 4-speed manual, making it the single most valuable and desirable powertrain available in an E-Type. The suspension is, of course, all independent with the rear featuring inboard disc brakes for reduced unsprung weight to improve handling. Rolling stock consists of brand new Jaguar spoke knock-off wheels wearing 205/70/15 performance radials.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
