Auction Northeast 2017 Location TENT 1 B-4

VIN 1E31900 Exterior Color GOLDEN SAND Interior Color BEIGE Cylinders 6Engine Size 4.2-LITER Transmission 4-SPEED MANUAL

Lot #681 - This XKE Series I was built September 28, 1965, and dispatched on October 12, 1965. The car went through several owners until it ended up in Salt Lake City approximately 25 years ago. Here it sat until 2008, when a restoration commenced. The current collectors purchased this car in 2012 in its unfinished restoration state. After being purchased, a new two-year, nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration was undertaken. Completed in the late summer of 2014, this was no ordinary restoration. It was taken down to the bare metal; the rotted floor and trunk pans were replaced. Additional reinforcements were fabricated into the rocker boxes to strengthen the body; this was a weak spot on these cars. A new subframe was installed. The entire driveline was rebuilt by a master Jaguar specialist who started out apprenticing at the Jaguar factory in the 1960s. The correct interior was sourced from England and every part was rebuilt or replaced with very high-quality replacement parts. Photo documentation of the restoration shows the quality and work that was performed. The car is a complete, matching-numbers example of an early Series I 4.2-liter coupe. It is accompanied by the Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate. This car is one of eight in Golden Sand, seven of them are in the United States and one is in France. Since its completion, this E-Type coupe has been awarded Best in Class, scoring 99.94 at JCNA Concours. It also received an award at Pinehurst Concours d 'Elegance and a Palmetto Award at the Hilton Head Motoring Festival in the year which Jaguar was the featured marque. Comprehensive restoration with photo documentation and invoices totaling over $220,000, as well as Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate. 4-speed manual transmission.

This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that underwent a two-year refurbishment beginning in 2012. Work included bodywork and refinishing the car in Sand, reupholstering the interior, and overhauling the 4.2L inline-six and four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a push-button radio. The current owner acquired the car in the summer of 2017. This XKE coupe is now offered on dealer consignment with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s handbook, a tool kit, service and refurbishment records, Jaguar Clubs of North America concours scoresheets, and a clean Arizona title.

The car was finished at the factory in Sand, and it was refinished in 2014. Bodywork in preparation included stripping and reinforcing the body, removing rust, replacing the floors and trunk pans, and more, which is detailed in records provided in the gallery below. Equipment includes recessed headlights with clear covers, split chrome bumpers with guards, a vented hood, three windshield wipers, a sloping roofline with a side-opening hatch, and polished central exhaust outlets. The seller states a replacement subframe was fitted.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The interior was reupholstered with a County Tan-colored interior trim kit sourced from Suffolk & Turley of Warwickshire, England, which included a replacement headliner, seat covers and cushions, door panels, and carpeting. Equipment includes low-back bucket seats, a heater, safety belts, hand crank side windows, an array of toggle switches for vehicle functions, and a push-button radio.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset analog clock, and centrally-positioned auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows just under 15k miles, less than 500 of which have been added by the current owner. True mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU side-draft carburetors and work during the aforementioned refurbishment included decking the block, resurfacing the valve seats, boring the cylinders 0.040″ over, polishing the crankshaft, turning the flywheel, and replacing the valve guides, pistons, main and rod bearings, valve springs, and gaskets.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate details colors, production information, and serial numbers. Additional documentation accompanying the car consists of Jaguar Club of North America concours scoresheets from 2015 detailing a 99.93 out of 100 total score.
