This car was for sale on Ebay and then at an estate sale. The last information I received is that the owner was going to get the car running and clean it up to try to sell it.

Ebay item 3/25/06

Current bid $1,025 reserve not met, 3 bids, 6 days left in auction. Buy it now price $22,500.

Sellers description:
1966 Jaguar XKE 4.2 Liter Series One fixed head and triple carburetor four-speed Coupe that is fresh out of a lengthy indoor storage, last registered in the State of Texas in 1995. It has always been in the State of Texas. THIS CLASSIC VEHICLE HOLDS THE ORIGINAL TITLE WHEN SOLD NEW AT OVERSEAS MOTORS IN DRY CLIMATE DALLAS,TEXAS!!! This is a one owner vehicle where the history of the car could be traced by It's new owner. The dealership is alive and well in Dallas!!! Another interesting attribute to this car is that it was equipped with Air-conditioning with a nifty center console control and vent panel, and rear mounted A/C condenser units. Unknown whether this was a dealer option or factory installation. The motor sounds strong, starts every time, does not smoke and in our opinion does not need to be rebuilt. The transmission shifts firm, the clutch engages as it should and the brakes work perfectly. A major service, tires and exhaust, and probably a few unforeseen minor problems, and in our opinion, the car would be roadworthy again. We have driven the car at slow speeds around our facility before coming to this conclusion. It appears that the original color of the car was a light yellow. Most importantly, and in our opinion only, this vehicle is a solid overall example, and an excellent candidate to take to the next level. Very complete car!!!

Inspection of the exterior of the vehicle reveals older clear-coat paintwork that is somewhat presentable, if driver quality was your goal. A few scratches, and no dents. Like most E-types, previous repair work was performed on the nose of the hood, although it does not appear to major. You cannot feel chunks of bondo, and ripple-free sheet metal can be felt when you reach up underneath the air intake hole. We have observed no rust bubbles in any of the body panels, good body panel alignment, and both doors will open and close as they should. The trim and glass are in excellent un-restored condition, with the exception of a scratch caused by a bad wiper blade, and all four wire wheels are in exceptional condition. Glass head lamp covers are in very good-to-excellent condition. Most rubber soft products such as door seals need to be replaced, although the windshield and back glass seals are in good condition and crack-free. Overall, a decent exterior presentation in terms of an un-restored car out of long term storage.

Inspection of the interior reveals nice looking and original door panels, and bright looking gauge and switch clusters. Leather seat covers, headliner and carpets should be replaced. Rear cargo area looks exceptionally nice, and all chromed interior trim items are in excellent condition. The dash pad is somewhat deformed from hot Texas sun, and there is a crack in it. A look underneath the luggage tray reveals ORIGINAL AND BELIEVED TO BE COMPLETE TOOL KIT, JACK ASSEMBLY IN IT'S ORIGINAL STORAGE POUCH AND A FACTORY WIRE WHEEL WITH A DUNLOP BIAS-PLY TIRE THAT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS NEVER USED!!! The spare tire well is rock solid with no issues at all. Overall a complete interior with lots of potential. The carpets were removed due to severe deterioration and to provide the buyer with an assessment of floor pan condition. Both of them have the usual dents that could easily be pounded out. The driver-side floor pan shows some small through-holes where it joins the inner rocker panel. The metal is still factory thick, and in our opinion, it could be repaired and treated for surface rust to become a quite usable floor pan for a driver quality restoration. The passenger-side floor pan has SURFACE RUST ONLY, and is very solid with no through-holes whatsoever. A look underneath the dash reveals a wiring harness that is soft and pliable, crack-free wire shielding, and it has not been hacked-up. Most electrical accessories will operate. Overall, a complete interior with a lot to work with. Inspection of the undercarriage shows original and dirty from grease and road grime. Budget for a complete exhaust system replacement. The only rust issue observed underneath is slight, and located beneath the battery. In our opinion, the metal is still thick enough, and needs to be properly treated rather than replaced. We scraped it with a knife to verify It's solidity, and in our opinion, it is a common and minor rust issue, although the new owner needs to be informed of It's existence. Aside from the two issues previously disclosed, this E-type is a solid and dry climate example indeed!!! One issue caused from an old battery, and the other likely due to moisture accumulation underneath the carpet. This one is about as solid as an educated buyer could expect from an original and un-restored E-Type!!! A well preserved Texas find!!!

Bring this one back to a good driver with ease, or an excellent foundation for your show winner restoration project. We assume that the numbers match on the engine although no guarantees, and it would be helpful if a bidder more informed than we are would tell us where to look. We will add our findings to the vehicle listing for all to see.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
