But Tom, the 2006 Concours (note there is no "e") is not yet over. If your car does keep its first place standing after the season is over, it won't be a "National" champion. There is no such thing in JCNA, which is an international organization. Try "North American" champion.

Car to be at RM auction Amelia Island, Florida 3/10/07
    www.rmauctions.com/

    LOT: 300
    ESTIMATE: $75,000 - $100,000
    CHASSIS NO: 7E55279
    OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

    Specifications:
For 12 months spanning 1997-98 the arresting 1966 Jaguar XKE Coupe offered here was totally stripped and rebuilt from the ground up to be raced in the SCCA GT2 category. At its first event appearance, the 6th of June 1998 at Sebring, the Jaguar set a new track record on its way to finishing first. Over the next three years the car was campaigned at several regional and national racing events, never finishing lower than third place.

As part of its transformation from a stock XKE Coupe to a race car, new boxed inner and outer sills were fabricated, as was a 1.5-inch tubing roll cage. The dash and interior were constructed out of aluminum. Custom fiberglass rear quarters were built in order to accommodate 12-inch racing slicks. All the glass was replaced with polycarbonate. The suspension system was built with adjustable sway bars front and rear, Carrera coil-over shocks, an XJS rear suspension and a 3.73:1 Powerlock differential. The braking system was rebuilt and fitted with Coleman discs.

The original 4.2-litre DOHC Jaguar six-cylinder engine was completely re-engineered. Venolia pistons, a ported head, custom Crane cams, triple Weber 42mm carburetors, an ATI super damper and a specifically designed electromotive crank trigger ignition system are just some of the 375bhp engine’s many features. An automatic bell housing was modified to fit the five-speed transmission, which manages the Jaguar’s astounding 415 foot-pounds of torque.

In 2001, a regulation change imposed by the SCCA disqualified the Jaguar from racing in its class. Seeking a venue to race the Jaguar, it was discovered that with minimal modifications the XKE would be eligible for several categories of land speed record breaking attempts at North Carolina’s Maxton Mile – a converted military aircraft runway. The minor modifications needed to be competitive included slight changes to the suspension, a set of special wheels and tires, a carbon fiber hood and a spoiler.

On June 25, 2006, Tom Curren and his Curren Motorsports team set four land speed racing records in the XKE. It established records in the Unblown Gas Modified Sports category at 144.422mph, the Unblown Fuel Modified Sports category at 141.607mph, the Gas Circle Track category at 137.726mph and the Fuel Circle Track category at 143.760mph. The car was just recently the subject of a major feature in JAGUAR WORLD magazine (November, 2006) which contains a detailed account of its impressive build and race exploits.

Fully race prepped for today’s historic race groups such as HSR and SVRA, this awesome Jaguar is cosmetically presented to club concours winning standard, and cannot be replicated for a multiple of its expected value. With its uncompromising specification and build quality, the next lucky owner will be guaranteed a thrilling ride not to mention bragging rights for its record-breaking performance.

Auction ended at $39,500 reserve not met, no bids. Car now said to be in Covington, Louisiana.

    Sellers description:
1966 Jaguar XKE coupe is an ex SCCA road racer with runoffs history that set a lap record at the famous Sebring track and later set four East Coast Timing Association land speed records. From a standing start this E-Type AVERAGED 144.422 MILES PER HOUR for one mile, which is incredibly fast considering it was a standing start! The car is currently in road race trim for VINTAGE/HISTORIC RACING.

The engine is a dry sump 4.2 litre that produced 375 horsepower and 415 Ft. lbs. of torque on the dyno. Needless to say, throttle response is instant and the exhaust note is exceptionally crisp.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate goes with the car along with volumes of documentation, race results and setup specs. While not ready to enter a concours the race patina and cosmetics are quite acceptable and the car is sitting on brand new race tires.

This car is titled by the engine number. The cars original ID Plate is on the firewall.
