This 1965 Jaguar E-Type is a Series I fixed-head coupe that was manufactured on September 24, 1964, and was dispatched on October 20, 1964, to Jaguar Cars of New York for distribution in the US. The car is said to have spent approximately 25 years in storage before being purchased seven years ago by its current owner, who subsequently commissioned a refurbishment that was performed between 2015 and 2018 by Jaguar restoration specialists Midwest Motor Sports in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. Work involved a repaint in Opalescent Maroon over replacement Biscuit leather upholstery as well as an overhaul of the 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six with an over-bored replacement block and updated valves, valve seats, and crankcase and cam cover seals. Air conditioning and a heavy-duty cooling system with a larger radiator core and a CoolCat cooling fan were also added, while additional work included rebuilds of the rear end, suspension, fuel system, and wiring. Additional features include triple SU carburetors, porcelain-coated exhaust manifolds, a four-speed manual transmission, Dayton 15” wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes with stainless-steel calipers, an alternator, and a spin-on oil filter housing. This Series I E-Type is offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, photos and invoices from the refurbishment, and a clean Minnesota title.

The body was disassembled down to its unibody tub, stripped of an older repaint, and refinished in its current shade of Opalescent Maroon during the refurbishment performed by Midwest Motor Sports. Various bodywork repairs were carried out during the project using sheet metal panels sourced from Martin Robey in the UK. Features include covered headlights, chrome bumpers with overriders, triple windshield wipers, and a driver’s side mirror.

Dayton 15” wire wheels featuring polished stainless-steel spokes and chrome plating were fitted during the refurbishment and are secured via two-eared knock-offs. Michelin Defender tires measuring 205/70 are mounted at each corner, while a matching spare is secured under the floor of the rear cargo compartment. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with the rear units situated inboard, and a refresh of the system during the refurbishment included installing stainless-steel calipers.

The cabin was re-trimmed in 2018 by Midwest Motor Sports using an interior kit from Original Specification Jaguar Interiors and features Biscuit leather over the bucket seats with matching upholstery on the door panels, console, and sills. Biscuit carpeting is protected by rubber mats embossed with Jaguar logos, while color-matched Hardura lines the rear cargo area. Sound-deadening material was installed underneath the trim throughout the interior, including over the transmission tunnel and firewall. A Retro-Air air conditioning system was added during the refurbishment.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel features drilled spokes and frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset clock, the latter of which was overhauled with updated electronics. The five-digit odometer shows 98k miles, approximately 700 of which have been added during current ownership. The center dash hosts gauges monitoring coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage above toggle switchgear.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six was overhauled during the refurbishment using a period early-Series I 4.2 engine block in place of a later block that had been previously installed. Work included the installation of 0.040″-over pistons, a spin-on oil filter housing, and updated front and rear main seals and cam cover gaskets. Additional modifications include an alternator to accommodate the addition of the air conditioning and heavy-duty cooling systems.

The cylinder head is stamped with engine number 7E1202-9, matching the number listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and the chassis plate. Engine number 7E5939-9 is shown stamped on the block in the gallery, and according to the seller corresponds with an engine produced approximately one year after this car’s production date.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. A stainless-steel exhaust system was added during the 2018 refurbishment.

A Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate is included in the sale and lists the original colors and component numbers as well as production and dispatch dates.

Images from the refurbishment are included in the sale as are planning documents and invoices listing parts used in the project. The seller notes that parts for another E-Type are also listed on some of the invoices.
