This car was a special order for John Coombs' friend Graham King, MD of Streeters of Goldalming Ltd and was the last of many E Types he bought from Coombs (he replaced it with a Rolls Royce Corniche Convertible, AHO1J). It was factory finished in Porsche Bahama Yellow (BahamaGelb) with black trim and white piping. I bought it from Graham King/Streeters in early 1971 and used it for three years as a daily driver until a local car mechanic relieved me of it in the middle of the night. The thief had intended to "ring" it with a tired earlier car which he owned but when he found out that I was the local E Type register representative and that every single part of the car was Bahama Yellow (I presume he thought it had been a standard colour and resprayed), he panicked, cut it up, retaining only the bits he could immediately use and dumping the rest. By analysing what he dumped (no one would cut and dump perfect E Type front frames for instance), I ascertained what he was doing and tracked every E Type fhc in the area (I think he kept the tailgate, which told me he had an fhc). I identified the thief and ensured that he was convicted of theft (he tried to claim that he was only guilty of receiving but failed). Regardless, sadly, the car was no more.
