According to the accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, this particular home market example was built on March 2nd 1966 and dispatched to Glovers of Ripon, Harrogate just under two weeks later. Still boasting `matching' chassis and engine numbers, the two-seater is understood to have spent time in America before entering the current ownership during May 2001. As the proprietor of an award winning classic car hire business, the vendor has reportedly treated the E-type to a number of user friendly upgrades including: "a Kenlowe cooling fan, uprated radiator, tracker device, electronic ignition, inertia reel seat belts and improved front brakes" not to mention "a thorough engine overhaul / conversion to unleaded (2001) and waxoyling". While, he further informs us that: "the car has proved to be very reliable and is offered in good all-round condition with good paint, chromework and interior. The engine bay is tidy but could benefit from some additional detailing work. Overall, the car offers an attractive entry to Series I E-type ownership for the enthusiast wishing to enjoy using and gradually fettling this desirable variant of Jaguar's iconic fixed-head coupe". Road registered as `KWY 373D' (a West Yorkshire number plate), the two-seater comes with "substantial maintenance records 2001-2008" and a fresh MOT certificate.

I owned the original KWY 373D, a white Series 1 4.2 FHC. Got the photos to prove it. Sold it in Hull in 1981 to a guy in Hornsea. I emigrated to Australia. Sold for 2 grand !!

Yes I would love to still own it, wanted to take it with me but the head needed doing badly and it would have been hard to drive it anywhere to export. Presumably it got scrapped or something for the plates to be re-issued, dont seem to have a record of the id numbers for further investigation. Meanwhile I help a friend work on his very nice S1.5 FHC here in Melbourne

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
