This car was originaly supplied by Coombs of Guldford and was serviced by them for the first 10 years.I would be pleased to speak with anyone who remembers this car during that period. The car is registered HPD10C as were the famous racing e types eg WPD etc...

Car was at auction 12/08
www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r

Auction description:
This superb Series 1 4.2-litre Coup was supplied new by Coombs of Guildford, whose proprietor, John Coombs, was one of the foremost tuner/entrants of his day, enjoying close links with the Jaguar factory. 'HPD 10C' is one of two Series 1 4.2-litre Coups modified by Coombs to this specification, its engine being tuned and the suspension lowered, and subsequently this car was maintained by them. When acquired by the immediately preceding owner, Mike Birtwistle circa eight years ago, the E-Type had covered only 14,000 miles from new and was exactly as it had left the factory. A further 5,700 have been added since then, some on a European tour, making the total from new a mere 19,700. This exceptionally low mileage is fully documented, there being in excess of 30 expired MoTs on file. The car was repainted in its original livery nearly six years ago, the utmost care being taken to retain originality. Only a small amount of corrosion needed attention, so all the original panels remained in place. The correct cellulose paint was used and applied to achieve exactly the same standard of finish as the factory would have managed in 1965, authenticity rather than a concours result being the aim. All mechanical parts were removed and refurbished where needed, then painted or cleaned and put back. The brakes were completely overhauled with new discs, pads, etc. All suspension bearings and bushes were replaced, as were the driveshaft joints. Any items that needed changing were replaced with new original Jaguar parts. Nothing in the interior of the car has been changed and all as it was in 1965. All the tools and handbooks are with the car as well as the spare wheel and tyre, which have never been used! Its owner's painstaking approach to restoration was fully vindicated in June 2007 when this car achieved 1st place at the Jaguar Drivers' Club's International Jaguar E-Type Register Concours d'Elegance at Prescott (Premier Series 1 4.2 Class). The certificate is in the history file, which also contains the car's full Coombs Garage service history and a photographic record of the restoration. With all numbers matching, possessing such detailed history and having covered so few miles, this quite outstanding, concours-winning E-Type is almost certainly unique in this condition.

This exceptional E Type was supplied new by Coombs of Guildford whose proprietor, John Coombs, was heavily involved with Jaguars in competition at the time and had very close links with the Jaguar factory. HPD 10C is one of two Series 1 4.2 Coupes specially modified by Coombs from new, the engine was tuned and the suspension modified to his specification. Coombs subsequently maintained the car for many years.

Eight years ago the car was purchased by Mike Birtwhistle, an established Jaguar collector who only buys the finest most original cars. At this point the Coupe had covered just 14,000 miles and was exactly as it had left the factory. Less than 6,000 miles have since been added since, most on a single European tour, making the total around 20,000. This remarkably low mileage is supported by the history file which includes service invoices and over thirty previous MOT certificates.

The car was lightly renovated by Mr Birtwhistle around eight years ago. It was repainted using the original cellulose paint in order to achieve an exact factory finish, it was noted during this work that the car retains all of its original panels and shows no sign of any previous work or damage. All mechanical components were removed and refurbished as required. The braking system and suspension were completely overhauled and all bushing was replaced, as were the driveshaft joints. The interior remains completely original and unmarked. All of the tools and handbooks are with the car as is the original unused spare wheel and tyre.

In June 2007 the car achieved first place at the Jaguar Drivers Club International Jaguar E Type Register Concours d’Elegance at Prescott. This numbers matching example in such superb original order and with a complete comprehensive history is almost certainly unique.

The car is currently parked in a space I own. I cannot contact the person who left it there. I have a name of Gary Harding but he has not been in touch for about 4 months. Does anyone know if the car is stolen?
