Sellers description:
E Type Series 1 4.2 Litre FHC
Year: 1965
Chassis no: 1E20384
Registration: DWK464C
Price: £245,000.00
On the 12th of April, 1965 His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent took delivery of this iconic sports car & had it delivered to & registered in Germany where we has serving in the armed forces with the 11th Hussars. Anecdotally, he recalls regularly seeing an indicated 150 MPH whilst driving on Germany's then relatively traffic free autobahn system during his sojourn there. He used the car extensively including a lap of Goodwood race circuit upon his return with the then 8 year old Lord March as a passenger. There is a wonderful picture in the history of a somewhat older Lord March Lapping Goodwood wIth HRH at the wheel during the Goodwood Revival celebrations in 2011. He also did more then a few Laps of the famed Nurburgring when back in the day one simply turned up, bought a voucher & were turned loose on the track to "Run what you Brung."
After His Royal Highness the next owner was The famed Coach-Building Company Offord & Co, prior to passing through several other sets of hands to the current owner.
A plethora of pictures, correspondence from Kensington Palace & Lord March as well as various other luminaries such as Ralph Lauren, comes with the car & attests to its simply wonderful history. Indeed we have rarely had a car with such outstandingly & beautifully detailed provenance. Being of a personal nature, the aforementioned correspondence with the Prince & Lord March is being kept private & will only be released to the next owner rather then being available for general public viewing. A huge sheaf of expired tax discs & Ministry of Transport certificates also come with the car.
The car is pleasingly finished in its original colour of Opalescent dark green with light tan hide to the interior. A Webasto sunroof is fitted as is the frontal badge bar as seen in period pictures of the car kindly provided by H.R.H. The car also has a tool kit & jack under the rear floor where the spare wheel resides. Overall the car is matching numbers, in impeccable order throughout, being close to concours & is simply a credit to the current owner.

This absolutely fantastic example can only be described as ‘A Royal Legacy Reborn’. A 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series I Fixedhead Coupé model, bearing the registration number DWK 464C, is a remarkable piece of automotive history, distinguished by its royal provenance and storied past. On April 12th, 1965, His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent took delivery of this iconic sportscar, which was registered in Germany, while he served with the 11th Hussars. During his time there, he reportedly reached speeds of up to 150mph on the relatively traffic-free autobahns. The Prince also took the car for laps around the Nürburgring and the Goodwood circuit, with notable moments including a 2011 reunion with Lord March at the Goodwood Revival.
In 1987, the car was acquired by Brett Redshaw, who embarked on a comprehensive restoration. Through research and collaboration with Jaguar Heritage and the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club, Redshaw uncovered the car's Royal origins. The Prince confirmed his ownership, even sharing photographs of the car during his time in Germany. After its restoration, the car changed hands several times before being reunited with Prince Michael in 2010 at a Jaguar event at Highclere Castle. The prince expressed his delight upon seeing the car again after decades and took it for a drive, revisiting cherished memories.
Currently, this Jaguar resides in impeccable condition, retaining its original opalescent dark green paint and light tan interior. It is accompanied by a wealth of documentation, including correspondence from Kensington Palace and photographs from various events, underscoring its rich history and Royal connection. This Jaguar E-Type is more than just a classic car; it is a tangible link to a Royal legacy, embodying a unique blend of elegance, performance, and history. Unique! Consigned by James Good
