Ebay item 7/22/12
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-Jaguar-XKE-Series-1-5-Conv-42k-Mile-Original-Car-In ...
Opening bid $70,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 6 days left in auction. Buy it now price $100,000.

Sellers description:
After many years of wanting and searching for an XKE, in the late 90's, I purchased a 2 owner well preserved and original car that never had seen rust, been messed with, or had any excuses. This car was "the one" after searching through many pigs, improperly restored/pieced together cars, or over-restored examples that were better at the show than on the road. If you are a serious buyer, who loves the XKE, loves the way they perform, wants a real turn key example that is in top condition, then this is your "must have" example to own and enjoy. My priorities have changed, which is the only reason this car is available for sale. It is has been a pleasure owning/driving and will be missed. All truly interested parties are welcome, and advised, to schedule an appointment to view the car.

This car was beautifully refinished and upgraded in 2003. It's a real one with 42K miles from new. The vast majority of metal on the car is original including the floors, inner sills, trunk, rockers, bonnet, and tub. There is not 1 rust patch!

The cosmoline spare, original tire and tools are true to the car. The fly wheel was lightened, strombergs worked, and the car now has a 5 speed upgrade (matching number trans included) which improves the driving experience exponentially. The brakes and cooling system were upgraded, and I put D-type replica wheels from Realm Engineering with Pirelli Radials which further improves the looks and driving experience. The car is both mechanically/cosmetically excellent, recently serviced, and ready to drive.

The original wire wheels are included and clean, but too tired to be on the car. The Redline tires are in excellent shape and to be used if you choose to purchase Dayton Wires. I never pulled the trigger as I love the way the car sits. Both the original radio (included), and washer bottle/pump have been replaced. The exterior and interior color combination remain true, and the car was upgraded with the intention to always be able to bring it back to its true original form if so desired.

The miles are original and the 2 prior ownership is documented. All mechanical/restoration work was religiously performed by Brian at MotorCraft in East Rutherford New Jersey. You can drive this car worry free. Again, if you are an enthusiast, it is that nice.

The chrome bumper guards are rechromed as new, and included

This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 roadster that was acquired in non-running condition by the seller in May 1999, reportedly following several years of storage, and was subsequently refurbished in 2002. The car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a Tremec five-speed manual transmission, and it is finished in light blue over dark blue upholstery. Equipment includes a dark blue convertible top, chrome 15″ knockoff wire wheels, Wilwood front disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, an aluminum radiator, a louvered hood, a wood-rimmed steering wheel. Work in March 2023 consisted of reconditioning the cylinder head, flushing the clutch and brake fluids, changing the oil, and replacing the battery. This XKE is being offered with removed parts, a copy of the prior title, service records, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.

This example is finished in light blue and is said to have been repainted and fitted with a replacement door skin in 2002. Additional exterior details include a dark blue soft top and a matching top boot along with Lucas tri-bar headlights, split chrome bumpers, a louvered hood, dual side mirrors, and central polished twin exhaust outlets.

Chrome-finished 15″ Dayton wire wheels are secured by two-eared knockoffs and are mounted with 205/65 Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Plus tires. Braking is handled four-wheel discs with Wilwood units up front and inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brake fluid was flushed in March 2023.

The interior is said to have refurbished in 2002 and is equipped with low-back bucket seats trimmed in dark blue leather along with color-coordinated door panels and lighter blue carpets. Appointments include lap belts, a center armrest, a height-adjustable rearview mirror, an aftermarket shift knob, a heater and defroster, an analog clock, a Pioneer head unit, and JL Audio speakers.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and centrally positioned auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 47k miles, approximately 11k of which have been added by the seller.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is said to have been refreshed during current ownership and features triple SU carburetors, replacement porcelain exhaust manifolds, and an aluminum radiator. A March 2023 service included reconditioning the cylinder head, adjusting the radiator and cooling fan, flushing the coolant, changing the oil, and replacing the battery.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. The clutch hydraulic fluid was flushed in March 2023.

A spare set of wheels is included in the sale, along with the removed four-speed manual transmission, driveshaft, Stromberg carburetors, exhaust manifolds, radiator, and starter motor.

Car to be at auction 8/23

www.broadarrowauctions.com/vehicles/jc23_108/1968-jaguar-e-type-series-1-4-2-roadster

Auction description:

1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1½ 4.2 Roadster

Monterey Jet Center Auction 2023 | Estimate: $90,000 - $120,000

Chassis No. 1E18356

Engine No. 7E18367-9

According to its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, this Series 1½ Open Two Seat (OTS) Roadster was finished on 11 July 1968 and exported to Jaguar Cars, the official US importer, just a month later. Finished in Light Blue, often referred to as Cotswold Blue, with a darker Blue soft top and interior this example still wears its original colors today. Found parked in a garage with a reported 36,000 original miles in 1999, the previous long-term owner set about returning it to the road with the spirit and enjoyment of driving firmly in focus. Subtle upgrades with drivability in mind were made at the time including more powerful Wilwood front disc brakes, the replacement of the Stromberg carburetors for triple SUs, and an aluminum radiator. Most importantly of all, the original four-speed manual transmission has been replaced with a modern Tremec five-speed greatly increasing the elasticity of the 4.2-liter 265-horsepower engine. Crucially, a number of the original parts remain with the car, including the original Stromberg carburetors and original matching numbers four-speed transmission should the next caretaker wish to return the car closer to the original, as-delivered specification.

Records on file dating back to 1999 and continuing until 2023 document a partial restoration in 2002 with the previous owner noting a repaint in Light Blue around this time. A significant amount of service work was performed during the spring of 2023 with an overhaul and installation of the cylinder head including setup and adjustments, fresh brake and clutch fluids, new coolant, high-performance oil, and a new battery with the Smiths odometer indicating just over 47,248 miles at that time. Most recently, the interior has been reupholstered in Dark Blue leather, once again, matching the specification listed on its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and a fresh set of Michelin X redline radial tires fitted. At the time of cataloging, the car has accrued a mere 73 miles since its last service and includes its jack, original spare parts, and its original matching numbers four-speed transmission.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
