What's a Heritage Certificate and how do I get one?

Peter, A Heritage Certificate is a kind of authenticity document that you can get for British cars. Mostly it will tell you whether the numbers match (or not) and the original colours etc. Jaguar operates their own scheme -see here: www.jdht.com/
For other British marques, go here: www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/archive/certificate_index.html
Do note however that the possesion of a certificate does not guarantee the car is genuine. Likewise the absence of a certificate is fairly meaningless as the scheme is voluntary.

I've had this car since 1996 when I purchased it in Palm Desert, CA. That owe, I was told, had purchased it from the original owner, a pilot who lived in Fallbrook, CA. He had added air scoops, extra guages and a racing harness that took the place of the driver's seat belt.
