Ebay item 6/15/05
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $22,600.00 (Reserve not met), 7 bids, 4 days left in auction.
Sellers description:
This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a real classic. It is a 6 cylinder, 4.2 liter engine, 4-speed transmission, Primrose Yellow, Black leather interior, convertible top. It also has a fiberglas removeable hardtop included with it. It has the original chrome wire wheels and I have 6 of them included (4 + spare tire + extra).
I have owned this car for 29 years. I believe I am the third owner. I know most of the history of the car and would be happy to talk to interested buyers about it. It was originally purchased in Long Island, it was then sold and purchased by a person in CT. I purchased it in CT, owned it there for 11 years, moved it to FL for about 16 years and now it is in central MA for a little over a year. Each time it was moved it went in a closed trailer. It has been garaged for all the years I have owned it.
It is in very good original condition. It is equipped with all original equipment. Engine and chassis numbers all match. I have done a lot to it over the years. The paint is all professionally redone over 10 years ago. I replaced all the gaskets, carpets, and interior about the same time. 2 years ago, the head was professionally rebuilt with new valves and seats (so it can use unleaded gas). Recently, I rebuilt the water pump and had the gas tank removed, and red-lined.
A few interesting details about this model which make it classic - the car has high compression head, dual overhead camshafts, 4 wheel independent suspension with torsion bars in the front, 4 wheel power disc brakes, positraction rear, chrome wire wheels, dual SU carburetors and dual exhaust. It was way ahead of its day in 1968.
The engine compartment is the original paint. It has not been re-done. The car runs great and can be driven but I wouldn't recommend driving it across the country. The only thing wrong presently is a leaky rear brake cylinder. The brakes all work, but seem a little spongy.
The odometer was broken when I bought the car 29 years ago and had 11,000 miles on it. I fixed it a long time ago and it now shows 19,400 on it. I would estimate the car has around 60,000 original miles.
I also have the original owners manual and a workshop manual, all of which go with the car. The only option available on this car when it was new was the chrome wire wheels, which it has. I mentioned that I have a spare wheel for the car. The radio has been replaced long ago, but the speaker housings are original. Also, the front bumper guards that you see on many XKE's were NOT original equipment. They were an after-market accessory made by a company named Aamco. This car had these when I got it, but they were bent and the chrome was cheap and pitted. I removed them when the body was redone, and replaced the small vertical bumper guards with new ones (they were drilled). The nose has never been hit as is very common on many XKE's.
