1968 Jaguar E Type Roadster (OTS)
Rebodied when new with full 1967 Covered headlamp/small tail lamp Series 1 1/2 body by the Jaguar dealer, San Jose British Motors
I have owned this car for the last 12 years, having lusted after it and coveted it for years before that.
It was a virtual one of a kind, one owner car from Capitola, California, having been sold new at San Jose British Motors, San Jose, Ca.
When new the original buyer discovered he had waited just too long to acquire a covered headlamp '67 and so paid to have Bobbie Robinson, the General Manager of SJBM, order a full new covered headlamp body and convert the car. In this way he also had the very much improved cooling system used on the '68s.
Huffaker Engineering was asked to "massage" the motor and triple Weber DCOE sidedraft carbs, utilizing Warnerford Design intake manifolds, a la D Type, were fitted.
The car is Opalescent Blu with new Blue leather, new blue Wilton wool carpets, new Blue Twilfast softtop and top cover, all fitted and installed by Stu's Upholstery, Campbell, Ca. about 10 years ago but still appearing brand new.
I also had Bernard Juchli, owner of Jaguars Unlimited, Los Gatos, Ca., now head of the restoration shop of Jay Leno's collection, fit one of his thicker front sway bars lowering the front end about an inch and helping immensely with the car's handling.
Greg Solow's Engine Room fitted new rear inboard disc brakes and all rear end seals.
This is the finest driving and one of the finest looking Jag ETypes available anywhere, at any time.
I used the car many times on 900 miles weekend trips from Los Gatos to Los Angeles and back, often crusieng, effortlessly, at 110mph on Highway 46.
