This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 roadster that was completed on November 21, 1967 and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six with triple SU carburetors mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in beige with a color-keyed soft top over brown leather upholstery, and additional equipment includes a push-button AM/FM radio, four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rears, a louvered hood, and knock-off wire wheels. Work following the current owner’s acquisition in 2022 has involved adjusting the valves, re-coring the radiator, and replacing the battery, ignition switch, thermostat, front control arm bushings, and intake manifold and oil pan gaskets. This XKE is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a copy of the Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate, partial service records, and a clean California title.
This example was finished from the factory in Beige and features a color-keyed soft top and boot cover, a louvered hood, chrome bumpers, and central twin exhaust outlets. A replacement soft top seal was installed in early 2023. Paint chips are present around the driver’s door jamb.
Bright-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by knock-off spinners and mounted with 205/70 Michelin XW4 tires, which show signs of cracking in the sidewalls. Braking is via four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears. The upper and lower front control arm bushings were replaced in February 2023.
The cabin houses brown-leather-trimmed bucket seats that have reportedly been reupholstered and are joined by a matching center console, door panels, and dark brown carpets. Appointments include a push-button AM/FM radio, an analog clock, lap belts for both occupants, and rocker switches for vehicle functions.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel is mounted ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and a suite of auxiliary gauges in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 8k miles, almost all of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The steering wheel center cap is cracked, and the finish on the gauge surrounds is chipped.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors. Work performed within the last year by Sherman Oaks Exclusive of Sherman Oaks, California, included re-coring the radiator, performing a valve adjustment, and replacing the ignition switch, thermostat, battery, voltage regulator, cooling hoses, and intake manifold and oil pan gaskets. A service record from 2022 notes leaks from the timing cover, cylinder head gasket, and water pump gasket.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox.
A copy of the Production Record Trace certificate shows the factory colors and identification numbers along with a dispatch date of December 13, 1967.
The car is titled in California using the VIN sequence J681E16360, which adds “J68” prefix to the car number on the identification tag and the front chassis stamp.
