    Ebay item 4/13/09
    cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-68-Jaguar-RED-XKE-Roaster-Built-in-1967_W0 ...
Current bid $22,000 reserve not met, 2 bids 9 days left in auction. 70k miles.

    Sellers description:
    1968 RED XKE JAGUAR
(Built mid 1967, thus has all of the SRI E-Type Features (interior, bumpers, high performance 4.2 liter engine with triple SU carburetor system) but the covered Headlights which can be added if desired – Titled in 1968 at the time it was shipped to the US)

The car being offered is a MATCHING NUMBERS 1968 SR I ½ E-type roadster.
This car has spent most of its life in Minnesota where cars of this caliber are not driven in the winter. They are well cared for and stored in safe, dry and salt-free environments; as a result they generally have very little to no rust and very low miles. This car, an excellent example of a Minnesota car, was restored a few years ago and since its restoration has only been used as a pleasure vehicle in the summer time as a car to drive and/or show on warm sunny days.

Very little was left untouched during the cars restoration. The restoration included, but was not limited to; a complete body repaint (including the exterior, engine area, trunk, and undercarriage), a detailed engine bay, a complete new leather interior, a new top (including top frame restoration), new tires, and a thorough restoration of the mechanics (including the key components - engine, transmission, clutch, suspension, etc.). The car also has an updated sound system, new tires, new trunk kit, new rubber, and many other things typically done on a restoration of this magnitude.

The car is finished in striking Jaguar Carmen Red, with a BEAUTIFUL Leather Beige interior.

This car could easily be converted to a SR I configuration. It was built in mid 1967 at the tail end of the SR I production (titled in 1968 at the time it was brought into the US).

This car should not be classified as a Series 1, but as Series 1.5 per the JCNA '68 Judges' Guide, page 2, based on the OTS, LHD Build records. The Series 1 ended at 1E15888. Your xkedata.com website has also confirmed the same information in the "About the XKE" section under "Models", showing the differences between the 4.2 Series 1 and the Series 1/2. This car is a Series 1 1/2.

Regarding the above comment, Jaguar does not recognize anything below the S2 cars as anything other than S1. JCNA has adopted the S1.25 and S1.5 titles, which I applaud, to avoid confusion these are not Jaguar recognized titles however. This car in fact is a S1.25 car identical to all S1 cars except open headlights (exception for owner installed mods, e.g. valve covers etc.) S1.5 cars began with 1E15980 (ots) built 8/15/67. Better identified as "federalized" cars they had the 1968 mandated S2 style interior crash safety features and emission controls in the engine compartment, which this car does not have as well as preceding the cut in VIN. Note that because these were US federal mandates there are no exceptions, all cars "sold" in the US as '68 model year were required to have the new standards. The title date varies occasionally due to errors or being sold in other markets, which were not required to have US mandates. Tho the rest of North America followed suit quickly the rest of the world did not get all of the changes until the S2 was introduced.
