This late Series 1 Jaguar E-Type Open Two Seater (OTS) is a beautiful example of what is frequently described as "the most beautiful car ever built." Introduced in 1961, almost all early E-Types were destined for the US. Later Series 1 cars, including this one, were fitted with a 4.2 litre engine that produced 265 hp, along with a fully synchromesh gearbox in place of the Moss "crash-box" utilized until 1965.

This left-hand-drive US-spec open two-seater left the factory on the last day of June 1967, wearing beige paint with black leather seats and black fabric folding top, chrome wire wheels with whitewall tires, tinted glass, bumper guards, seat belts, and hazard-warning lights. It was delivered to Marquis Motors in Laguna Beach, California, which installed a Blaupunkt radio that remains with the car.

The first owner was Vernon A. Johnson of Temple City, California, who took delivery on September 2, 1968. Mr. Johnson appears to have driven his Jaguar sparingly, recording approximately 24,000 miles over 12 years. The second owner was James Mason of Bakersfield, California, who purchased the car in 1982 and drove it barely 2,300 miles in 2 1/2 years. An August 1991 inspection report lists the odometer reading just 34,056 miles.

After Mr. Mason's passing in 1991, the car - described as a completely rust-free example that had lived its entire life in Southern California - was purchased from his estate by the current owner. Beginning in 1998, the car received a bare-shell cosmetic and mechanical restoration over a five-year period by E-Type restoration specialists Bruce and Mark Alsop at Best of Britain in South Ryegate, Vermont. The mechanical work included an overhaul of the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, interior leather, and installation of a new Stay-Fast top. The engine bay and various under-hood components were more recently freshened in 2012. The consignor states that the car has been driven sparingly during his ownership, with the odometer reading just 37,383 original miles at the time of cataloguing.

1E 15857 is presented with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate that details the complete specifications of this fine E-Type. Also included are the car's original window sticker; dealer inventory sticker; factory warranty certificate; factory repair manual; the original Jaguar pouch containing the owner's manual, operating, maintenance, and service handbooks; a Blaupunkt operating brochure; and extensive service and maintenance receipts.

Lamborghini Houston proudly offers our superb 1967 Jaguar E-Type (XK-E) Convertible Series I. This is Chassis Serial Number 1E 15857, a very late Left-Hand-Drive US-spec open two-seater (OTS) Series I, finished in its original Beige with Black folding convertible top over Black leather and as originally factory configured with chrome wire wheels (although original whitewall tires have been replaced), tinted glass, bumper guards, seat belts, and hazard-warning lights. It is a complete numbers-matching example with its original 265hp 4.2L DOHC Inline 6-cylinder engine # 7E 13892-9 and fully synchromesh 4-speed manual gearbox # EJ 15322.

The jack with bag and Thor hammer are also included.

The father and son team of Best of Britain are experts who have been restoring these Jaguars since the early 1980's. Their mechanical work as well as body and paint expertise is of the highest quality. This 1967 Jaguar E-Type Convertible Series I will make an excellent addition to any collection.
