Sellers description:
1967 JAGUAR XKE CONVERTIBLE ROTISSERIE BODY RESTORATION

This is a COMPLETE and MATCHING NUMBERS car. $10,000 has been spent on a professional shop rotisserie restoration to include new sheet metal, removal and installation, blocking, primer, and sanding. There are ALL new floors, inner and outer rockers, and supports. The bonnet has both new fenders and a new valence (metal under hole in nose) all from England. The fenders will have to be trimmed slightly at the firewall as they come from the factory a little long to allow custom fit. The center section of the bonnet will need some sanding and repair. The engine is complete with intake and 3 carbs and it turns. The bumpers, top frame, dash, steering wheel, guages, transmission, rear end, headlight glass covers and chrome surrounds are all present. As this was to be a high end restoration, the windshield had some imperfections, was discarded, and has not yet been replaced with a new one. You can save time and money with all the hard body work already done.

Lot #70994

This 1967 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was acquired by the seller out of Georgia in 2008 as a disassembled project. A subsequent mechanical and cosmetic recommissioning was initiated in 2012 that included an overhaul of the engine as well as an exterior repaint and an interior refresh. Power is supplied by an overbored 4.2-liter inline-six equipped with triple SU carburetors and mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, and the car is finished in New Formula Red over black leather upholstery. Additional equipment includes a black folding soft top, a Pioneer CD stereo, a stainless exhaust system, glass headlight covers, and 15″ knock-off wire wheels. This XKE roadster is offered in Texas with refurbishment photos and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

The body was stripped and refinished in its current New Formula Red color according to the seller, who notes the windshield was replaced and the brightwork was replated during the refurbishment. Features include a replacement folding soft top, split front and rear bumpers, glass headlight covers, and twin exhaust finishers.

Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels secured with two-eared knock-offs are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A matching spare is stored in the trunk. Braking is managed by four-wheel discs with inboard rear rotors, and service during the refurbishment is said to have included replacement rear-axle bearings and seals according to the seller.

Interior finishes include replacement black leather upholstery on the seats accompanied by matching treatments for the dashboard, center console, and door panels. A Pioneer CD stereo is linked to speakers on either side of the center stack, and additional equipment includes an adjustable rearview mirror, manually operated windows, and lap belts for both occupants.

The wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset analog clock as well as centrally-mounted gauges monitoring amperage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 25k miles, roughly 2k of which have been added by the seller. True chassis mileage is unknown.

The twin-cam 4.2L inline-six is paired with a four-speed manual transmission and equipped with triple SU carburetors. The engine was reportedly rebuilt at the time of the refurbishment. Work is said to have included conducting a .040″ overbore, resizing the connecting rods, a three-angle valve job, and replacement of the following components:

Valves, valve guides, and valve springs

Small-end bushes

Timing chains

Oil pump

Wiring harness

Cylinder-head stamping 7E12813-9 is shown above and matches the engine number noted on the chassis identification plate.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
