This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was completed on December 1, 1966 and distributed in the US through Jaguar Cars of New York. It was acquired by the current owner around a year ago and underwent a subsequent refurbishment by the seller’s shop that included a repaint in metallic blue and a reupholstered tan interior. The numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six is linked with a four-speed manual transmission, both of which are said to have been rebuilt during the work. Features include a body-color removable hardtop, a dark blue soft top, Blaupunkt push-button AM/FM radio, glass headlight covers, four-wheel disc brakes, and 15” knock-off wire wheels. This XKE is being offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner in Scottsdale, Arizona with a tool kit, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean Connecticut title.
Finished from the factory in Opalescent Dark Green, the car was repainted its current shade of metallic blue during current ownership and the window glass is said to have been replaced at that time. Exterior features include a dark blue soft top and body-color removable hardtop, a louvered hood, and glass headlight covers.
The polished 15” Dayton wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and mounted with 205/70 Bridgestone tires. A full-size spare is found in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears that have reportedly been overhauled.
The cabin was trimmed in black leather from the factory and has since been reupholstered in tan leather with a matching center console, door panels, and brown carpets. Equipment includes lap belts, a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, and toggle switches for vehicle functions.
A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 70k miles, around 50 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. A spare wood-rimmed steering wheel will accompany the vehicle.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features polished valve covers and triple SU carburetors. The engine and cylinder head were reportedly rebuilt during current ownership, and re-ground camshafts and upgraded pistons are said to have been installed at this time. Additional replacement parts include the fuel pump, wiring harness, valves, springs, retainers, and valve guides. The seller notes that the rotating assembly has been balanced.
Cylinder head stamping 7E11312–9 is shown above and matches the number listed on the chassis plate and the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate below. A photo of the matching block stamping can be viewed in the gallery.
The four-speed manual transmission is also said to have been overhauled with a replacement clutch, layshaft, synchro rings, bearings, and seals. The flywheel was resurfaced, and the rear end reportedly rebuilt with 3.07:1 gearing. Additional photos of the underbody, suspension components, and stainless steel exhaust system are provided in the gallery below.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers as well as a manufacture date of December 1, 1966.
A number of photos taken prior to and during the refurbishment can be seen in the gallery.
