Sellers description:
The E Type was purchased new in England by Mr. C. Crotts of Jamestown, North Carolina and shipped by him to the US. Over the next eight years Crotts enjoyed the car using it for weekend trips and pleasure drives covering approximately 94,000 miles. The car had never been in an accident and was in excellent condition. Jaguar restoration expert Richard Denecke of Raleigh North Carolina purchased the car with the intention of performing a full restoration. The project had not gotten very far when Denecke sold the car to Jim Mooney of Tryon North Carolina. The car was stored in Mooney’s garage for the next 15 years with very little work being completed. In the summer of 2004 Mooney sold the car to its fourth owner who sent it to Gallaher’s Restorations where a full “nut and bolt” restoration was performed over the next 18 months.
The engine, transmission, rear end, suspension, and brakes were fully rebuilt. New front and rear Koni shocks were installed along with new wheel bearings. New brake master cylinder, brake booster, clutch cylinders, drive shaft u-joints, and Kool Kat radiator were also installed. Brand new Dayton 6x15 chrome wire wheels were installed with 205x15 P4000 tires.
Engine upgrades include:
• Terry’s Jaguar “Cat Claw” head, ported and polished with larger valves and springs. Reprofiled cams, hardened valve seats, and bronze guides
• Triple Weber DCOE 45 carbs (new) series 9 (specifically for Jaguar) with soft mounts.
• Guy Broad Weber intake manifold port matched and polished
• K&N air filters
• Mallory mechanical distributor and high output coil
• A&E lightweight pistons
• Terry’s Jaguar lightweight flywheel
• ARP racing main and rod bolts
• Jet coated exhaust manifold
The entire engine was then polished and detailed. The original SU carbs and manifold were also rebuilt and come with the car.
Henson’s in Landrum South Carolina undertook the paint and bodywork. The body was stripped to bare metal, all panel gaps and fit were perfected, and the car was refinished in its original Opalescent Dark Green color to the highest concours standard. All the chrome was re-plated and all other brackets powder coated for durability including the gas tank. All of the original hardware in the car was restored to proper factory finishes.
The interior carpets, side panels, and seats, were completely restored by Bartlett in Muncie Indiana. A new top and tonneau cover were also fitted to the car. The instruments were restored as was the original Motorola radio.
After the restoration was complete this E Type was competed in five Jaguar Club of North America (JCNA) national events winning the class S-3 each time. The car averaged an amazing 99.997 points over the five events!
The car comes with its original factory hard top, documentation including the original warranty card, parts manual, lube chart, Motorola radio manual and receipts for all services since 1967!
