This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was produced on September 2, 1966 and purchased 16 years ago by the seller from the second owner of 35 years. Power is provided by the original 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six, which is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox and a 3.07:1 rear end. Finished in red over a black leather interior, the car is equipped with a black soft top and a removable dark green hardtop. Maintenance in 2018 consisted of new clutch master and slave cylinders. This XKE is now offered with partial service records, literature, a tool kit, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The exterior was repainted during previous ownership in red after the rear quarter panel was scratched. A black soft top and boot cover are equipped, and a dark green factory hardtop is included in the sale. Chrome wire wheels are wrapped in Pirelli rubber. A suspension overhaul performed in 2003 included new sway bars, rear springs, upper and lower ball joints, and more. The black leather interior features tan belts, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an aftermarket Blaupunkt stereo. The white headliner of the removable hardtop, as well as the interior of the black soft top.
A 3-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation, including a 6k-rpm tachometer and a 160-mph speedometer. The 5-digit odometer was replaced in the 1970s, reportedly at 29k miles. It now shows 18k miles, about 5k of which were added by the seller.
The 4.2L twin-cam inline-six is equipped with three SU side-draft carburetors and is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller has added electronic ignition and an aluminum radiator, though the factory radiator is included in the sale. New clutch master and slave cylinders were installed in September 2018.
Engine number 7E10082-9 can be seen stamped into the block above and matches that listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate below. The corresponding stamping on the cylinder head. The seller reports that the 3.07:1 rear end was sourced from the UK and installed in the 1970s.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows the original numbers and colors, as well as a production date of September 2, 1966 and US delivery. Service records covering the seller’s ownership are included in the sale along with a tool kit, spare tire, and literature.
