The first owner of this E-type was an officer in the Army who was stationed at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey. He purchased this Jaguar in England and had it shipped to the U.S. We don't know how long he owned the car, but eventually, he sold it to a stockbroker on the NYSE. This owner sold it to a colleague of his who only had it a few years. He befriended the current owner while traveling on a passenger ferry between NJ and Wall Street. The current owner enjoyed working on these cars and agreed to help the prior owner maintain the car.
In 1990, after about a year of meeting/working together on the car, the stockbroker decided to sell it to the current owner. This owner used the car as an occasional weekend driver. In 1993, he moved with his wife to Seattle, Washington and brought the car along. Besides his own tinkering, he employed the help of Woodinville Sports Cars, Inc., a reputable Jaguar specialist who was known for their quality repairs and restoration work on vintage examples.
When the current owner purchased the car, the paint had already been changed from yellow to red. However, the work wasn't great. So, in 2002, he decided to begin the restoration process. He delivered the car to a reputable painter, Steven Ward, in BC, Canada. While the car was being repainted, a well-respected engine builder, Allen Purdy, began the mechanical restoration. The original engine was tired, so it was rebuilt using an HK block instead. The original carburetors, heads, etc. were rebuilt and reused. The compression is 9.0:1.
From 2005-2006, the car went back to Woodinville Sports Cars to have them do the final bits and pieces of the restoration. This work included:
Advanced Distributors restored a correct XK distributor and converted it to electronic ignition
New clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, and hoses
Repair brake and clutch pedals
Replace all cooling and heating hoses
Installed new correct wire wheels
Major service including manifold/carb gaskets and jetting
Brake system service and flush
New convertible soft top
Rebuild shift linkage and bushings
Cooling system service
Replace headlamp scoops and glass covers
Besides the restoration of the body and engine, the current owner spent another $15,000+ sorting out the car and taking care of the small details to make this a wonderful driver. The compression test numbers were excellent:

Recently, this owner took the car to his friend/vintage auto mechanic expert Bernie Buschen in Fall City, Washington to have the car checked over and make sure it is was ready to be used by the next owner. He performed a minor service, fixed a few small things, and checked the fluids/brakes. While preparing the car, the speedometer stopped working. So, they removed the cable, lubed it, and reconnected it and it started working again. Unfortunately, it just stopped and we aren't sure why. The gauge itself was tested and works fine. It could be where the cable attaches to the transmission.
This Jag is an excellent driver. It is clear by the condition that it was never abused. The paint shines up very nicely and has few signs of use. There are a few areas on the driver side hood vents where the paint is lifting due to prep (see pics). The chrome and brightwork look to be original and in great condition. The glass also appears to be original. The top is brand new and looks perfect. The interior is equally nice with just mild patina from age. The leather seats are in good shape and the dash has no cracks. Most the gauges (except speedo...see above) and lights work properly. There is no horn.
This XKE drives fantastic. It starts easily and with no hesitation. The choke system works perfectly. It has strong power and idles extremely smooth. There is no overheating either. The steering feels tight and the brakes are very responsive. It could easily be driven in comfort on a long tour.
The car comes with recent receipts from Woodinville, car cover, wheel hammer, tools, two tonneau covers, new tin parts, original spare whee/tire, and a jack.
