Following in the wheeltracks of the XK line, the Jaguar E Type owed much to the race proven technology of the legendary D Type sports-racer. The first production E Type, with disc brakes and independent suspension all round, which was a very newsworthy specification at the time, was announced in March 1961 as a replacement for the XK150. The first of the line was powered with the familiar XK six, initially being of 3791cc capacity and producing an impressive 265bhp at the flywheel.
From the chassis number, it would appear that an early donor E Type fixed head coupe has been employed to achieve this 1966 dated open sportscar. The transformation to the Series 2 E-Type roadster presented today was professionally executed by marque and model specialists Country Classics.
Finished in RAF blue with grey leather trim, which are described as being in good condition, the interior has been enhanced both with Series 2 car rocker switches as well as added wood veneering, the latter being particularly pleasing. Under the bonnet are triple SUs, while the gearbox is a 5-speed Getrag unit and Koni shock absorbers have been fitted and the exhaust recently renewed.
This clearly very well sorted E-Type, which is shod with model correct wire wheels, has served the vendor well for the last ten years, he says, the 7213 mileage displayed when entered for this sale being the total driven since the restoration was completed.

Car returned to auction 7/08 www.classicauctions.co.uk/lotdetail.php Auction description: Lot : 63 1966 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Roadster Estimate: SOLD for £■■■■■ Mileage: 7526 Colour: Blue Trim Colour: Grey Chassis No: 1E13169 Engine No: 7E9342-9 Registration No: KWD346D M.O.T: Sept 2008 Finished in blue with grey leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good overall" condition. According to its quoted chassis number, 'KWD 346D' began life as a left-hand drive 1966 Jaguar E-type 4.2 Roadster. Reportedly converted to right-hand drive as part of an extensive restoration carried out by marque specialists Country Classics, the two-seater is understood to have covered just 7,500 miles since work was completed. Sporting a non-standard but attractively executed wood veneer centre console, the Roadster also benefits from numerous Series II features and triple SU carburettors. An attractive and sympathetically upgraded E-type Roadster that has reportedly been kept garaged, 'KWD 346D' is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until September 2008.

Note that the auction description in the first comment is incorrect, there is no evidence this was ever a FHC-the chassis number definitely doesn't indicate that.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
