Car to be at auction 1/23

www.mecum.com/lots/FL0123-545412/1966-jaguar-e-type-series-i-roadster/

Auction description:

Lot K153.1 Kissimmee 2023 Jan 4-15

Chassis No. 1E12849

Highly original unrestored condition

4.2L DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine

Triple SU sidedraft carburetors

4-speed manual gearbox

Wood-rimmed steering wheel

Solid State AM/FM radio

Smiths instrumentation

Lucas electronic system

Maroon with Black leather interior

15-inch chrome knock-off wire wheels

As a 1966 model this highly original, unrestored, maroon-liveried, left-hand drive example from The Rick Grant III Estate Collection features the glorious full-house triple-SU carb setup from before U.S.-delivered E-types were subdued with power-sapping twin carbs. It also predates the safety bumpers that later imposed on imports. Inside its black leather interior, Chassis No. 1E12849 further features Smiths instrumentation tucked behind a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a Solid State AM/FM radio.

For many, these late Series 1 E-types represents the zenith of the model, both aesthetically and dynamically. That’s what makes it a favorite with many enthusiasts; just like in its golden era, it possesses the very same virtues, matching and even besting rarefied exotics costing many times more. This E-type roadster hails from what many regard as the sweet spot of the E-type’s evolution, as well as the driver’s choice.

Lot #107019

This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1 roadster finished in metallic red over black upholstery and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, chrome split bumpers, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a push-button AM/FM radio. The selling dealer acquired the car in December 2022 and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale. This Series I XKE roadster is offered at no reserve in Texas with a black top boot, a Thor knock-off hammer, a jack, and a clean Ohio title.

The body is finished in metallic red and is equipped with a black canvas soft top. Exterior elements include covered headlights, chrome split bumpers, a clamshell hood with louvers, hood-mounted side mirrors, three windshield wipers, chrome windshield and door-top moldings, a black top boot, and polished central exhaust outlets. Exterior wear includes deteriorating seals and weatherstripping.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 185-series Dunlop SP Sport tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The interior is equipped with low-back bucket seats trimmed in black upholstery with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, center console, and carpets. Appointments include lap belts, hand-crank side windows, toggle switches for vehicle functions, and a push-button AM/FM radio.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and centrally-mounted auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 19k miles.

The twin-cam 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU side-draft carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. An oil change was carried out in preparation for the sale.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
