Sale 19286 - Goodwood Festival of Speed, Collectors' Motor Cars, Watches and Automobilia, 1 Jul 2011
    Chichester, Goodwood
    Lot No: 456
    1966 Jaguar E-Type Series I 4.2-Litre Roadster
    Registration no. KWD 353D
    Chassis no. 1E 12371
    Engine no. 7E 3183

Sold for £67,500 inclusive of Buyer's Premium

This right-hand drive E-Type roadster was originally manufactured in left-hand drive configuration and delivered finished in silver grey with black trim and hood. In 1989 the Jaguar was restored by English Classic Cars of Distinction Ltd of Southam, Warwickshire for the previous owner, Mrs Brooks. They purchased a donor car to assist with the restoration, which included repainting and corrosion-proofing a rust-free bodyshell, reconditioning the 4.2 litre engine, original gearbox, rear axle, differential and suspension, rewiring the electrics, re-trimming the interior and fitting new chromed wire wheels. Acquired by the current vendor in 1992, the E-Type has been kept covered in a heated garage and used sparingly since then, covering only 1,300 miles in the past 15 years. A local garage, The Jaguar Workshop of Ravenscourt Square, London W6, keeps the car in very good order. As well as invoices relating to the aforementioned restoration, 'KWD 353D' comes with a quantity of expired MoT certificates, JDHT certificate and current MoT.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
