Auction Type Reserve

This 1966 Jaguar E-type Roadster has been “totally restored” to “concours” condition and factory specification, the seller explains. The restoration took place in 2012, and reportedly, the Jaguar has covered 2,000 miles since. The car is said to have had only three owners since rolling off the production line in Coventry, England. Today, the Smiths odometer registers 24,580 miles.

Cars like this 1966 Series I 4.2-liter E-type are prized because they benefit from improvements to the transmission and electrical systems but retain classic E-type styling with covered headlights. The cockpit was less spartan than in the past, and occupants perched on more comfortable seats, but the evocative row of toggle switches remained on the dash, not yet having fallen victim to safety regulations.

According to the seller, the engine has been “rebuilt” but is not believed to be original. He says the engine and transmission are “period-correct” for a 1967 4.2-liter Jaguar E-type. The “car runs perfectly, like new,” he explains. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission that “shifts and runs excellent,” according to the seller. Reportedly, there are “absolutely no leaks” from the engine or transmission.

This E-type is finished in maroon. The seller explains that it underwent a “concours” level repaint in 2012 as part of its restoration. Photos appear to show deep, glossy, well-applied paint, good-quality brightwork, and no evidence of corrosion. The seller says the Jaguar is a “solid, rust-free car.” The windshield and door glass are reported to be in good condition. “All door and trunk seals are new,” he says, adding that “there are no leaks.” A “new factory [style] canvas convertible top was installed during [the] restoration,” and it “functions perfectly.” There are “no leaks” observed from the convertible top. Exterior photos seem to show a black canvas convertible top that fits snuggly with no tears or yellowing of the rear plastic window. All the car’s exterior lighting is said to be in working order.

INTERIOR

Interior photos appear to show tan leather seat upholstery and coordinating carpeting, trim, and door panels. The seller explains that the car has “excellent seats” with manual adjustments that “function perfectly.” In photos, the seats and other interior trim present as untorn and unfaded, and the carpet is “excellent.” The car’s dash appears finished in correct black and houses a full array of gauges, which are reported to work correctly. The sound system is an “upgraded, modern, working stereo” with period-appropriate styling. The heater is reported to work, though interior pictures appear to show heater ducting that curves down into the footwells. The manual window and door lock mechanisms are said to be “working perfectly,” as do the interior lights.

CHASSIS

E-types have fully independent suspension utilizing torsion bars and control arms in front and a unique rear design featuring a lower wishbone and trailing link with a drive shaft doubling as the upper control arm. This car’s front and rear suspension are reported to have been completely rebuilt “2,000 miles ago” to stock specification; its bushings and shocks are “completely new.” The car’s power four-wheel-disc brakes are “completely new,” he says, and the manual rack-and-pinion steering is said to work properly. The seller states that “there are no driving issues.” The Jaguar’s chassis components and underbody appear corrosion-free in photos. This E-type rides on a set of 15-inch chrome-plated knock-off wire wheels, including a full-size spare wheel. It’s said that the “wheels are mint” and “smooth-running at all speeds.” They appear to be fitted with Michelin X redline tires.

DOCUMENTATION

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean New Jersey title in the owner’s name. The seller is assisting the owner of the vehicle, with his approval, to get the vehicle listed online. This 1966 Series I Jaguar E-type roadster is said to have undergone a complete restoration to “concours” condition in 2012. It’s presented as “rust-free” and “ready to drive.”
