Seen on eBay, 5/2003. Ad reads:

"Imagine the year is 1966 and you’re looking at a brand new XKE on the showroom floor... This is the feeling you’ll get every time you walk up to this spectacular vintage Jaguar…. Slip into the sumptuous leather seat and appreciate the fine workmanship and the pride of ownership this car has had its entire life. Turn the key and push the starter button to hear the sensuous purr of this magnificent cat. Accelerate through the gears and enjoy the awesome performance, the distinct sound of the engine and the easy shifting of the all-synchromesh transmission.

For the past 30 years this classic belonged to a retired McDonald Douglass engineer and Korean War pilot from Southern California. Only the second owner, he kept the car meticulously maintained and saved all the records. Since his passing, his wife has found that it’s not being driven often enough to justify keeping it. So here it is, offered for the first time on eBay, where the winning bidder will drive home one of the finest examples of a classic automobile from this vintage.

This is an ORIGINAL CALIFORNIA CAR WITH MATCHING NUMBERS. Included is the COMPLETE SERVICE HISTORY for the past 30 years. We have the actual receipts to back everything listed below:

Vehicle Condition

For it’s age, this Jaguar is in OUTSTANDING CONDITION! With 136,000 documented and meticulously maintained miles this car is “TURN KEY”. It can be driven with confidence from coast to coast.

All the chrome on the bumpers and original wire wheels sparkles brilliantly. The recently reupholstered leather interior and carpet are flawless. Although the original rubber weather stripping is slightly cracked in a few places, it is truly in remarkable condition. Except for the clock, all instruments and switches work perfectly.

Years ago, when the paint was refinished in its original sand stone color, only minor dings and dents were repaired. This car has never been in a major accident. With the exception of a few small cosmetic flaws, (some VERY minor chips, scratches, etc) the spectacular two-stage finish still shines like brand new. Garaged kept its entire life in Southern California, you’d be hard pressed to find any rust.

You also won’t find any oil spots in your driveway and you won’t see any smoke in your rearview mirror. The fully synchronised transmission shifts smoothly and effortlessly in all gears, the engine is strong and smooth, the car runs, drives, handles and brakes like new!"

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
