Sellers description:
This matching numbers 1965 Jaguar E-type was part of a collection from a prominent collector. Classic Showcase has recently performed a high level driver restoration to this matching number original XKE. It has been well kept and serviced as needed by the previous owner. This is an original Jaguar that has not been molested or abused. The paint is in good condition and the body is rust free. At Classic Showcase the engine has been completely rebuilt including machining, hot tank cleaning and magnafluxing with new pistons, timming chain, oil pump, bearings, turned the crank and the head was also rebuilt. All systems were serviced, rebuilt or replaced as needed. New shift bushings installed, resealed the transmission, new first gear syncro, new radiator with auxiliary fan, new heater tank, some brite-work rechromed, new knock offs, all rubber and seals replaced. When the engine was out of the vehicle, we repainted the frame rails and the inside of the bonnet and painted the trunk area, trunk lid and gas tank. We then color sanded and buffed the whole car. A new exhaust system and a new battery were also installed. This Jaguar was fitted with new complete interior, carpet, top bows were restored and a new stay fast cloth top. The vehicle then received a full vehicle detail inside and out. This is a very well sorted high end driver Jaguar Series I XKE.

Auction description:
Automobiles of Amelia Island
8 March 2008
Lot 265
1965 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster
To be auctioned on Saturday, March 8, 2008
Sold for $123,750
Chassis no. 1E11070

The example presented here is finished in British Racing Green with a black top and matching black interior. It is a matching numbers example that was formerly part of a prominent private collection, unmolested and well kept and serviced by the previous owner. Because of its originality, it was an excellent candidate for restoration. As such, the Jaguar specialists at Classic Showcase recently performed a comprehensive restoration on this E-Type with the aim of making it an outstanding driver and a contender for show events. Excellent panel fitting and metal work was performed before the car was primed, sealed, painted, color sanded, and buffed. Classic Showcase's upholstery department subsequently reupholstered the interior with new leather, vinyl, and carpeting while the top bows were restored and a new Stayfast cloth top was fitted to the car. The instruments were then rebuilt and a new wire harness was installed.

From a mechanical standpoint, the engine was completely overhauled. It was first hot tank cleaned then magnafluxed to look for cracks and machined. Afterwards the engine was rebuilt with new pistons, timing chain, oil pump and bearings. The crankshaft was properly balanced and finished and the cylinder heads were fitted with new valves, guides, tensioners, and springs. A new water pump and freeze plugs were also fitted. Meanwhile, the flywheel was resurfaced and a new clutch system was installed. New shift bushings were installed while the transmission was resealed and received a new first gear synchro, a new radiator with auxiliary fan and a new heater tank. All systems were serviced, rebuilt, or replaced as needed.
Finally, the car received new rubber, grommets, and hardware as well as a new battery and exhaust system. Cosmetically, the car also received new knock-off chrome wire wheels and rechromed brightwork.

Fully detailed both inside and out, this well-sorted and exceptional E-Type will be accompanied by a DVD documenting every step of the comprehensive restoration process. With its covered headlights, larger 4.2-liter engine, and attractive British Racing Green finish, this desirable Roadster is sure to offer elegance, grace, and open air motoring at its best.?
