Car to be at auction 8/19

Auction description:
CHASSIS NO: 1E10641

• Meticulous and comprehensive restoration by David Ferguson of Images Autobody
• Competition build, matching numbers car
• Accompanied by Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate
• Stunning color combination

Offered here is a 1965 Jaguar Roadster that’s finished in Golden Sand. This roadster has received a full restoration that has not only made it an excellent car but has also turned it into an ultra-performance track car as literally nothing has been overlooked in making this one of the best performing E-Types on the road. Everything from components to weight has been carefully calculated in its build and its beauty is exceeded only by its performance. Starting with the engine, its twin-cam six has been fully rebuilt using Weber carburetors, an external oil cooler, and a custom free flow exhaust system. A high flow CNC made oil pump ensures adequate pressure at all times. Weight was also not overlooked in this engine’s build with a lightweight starter motor and an aluminum radiator. The attention to craftsmanship and detail is found in the custom-made overflow tank that makes the engine bay look like a work of art. Power reaches the rear wheels through a custom-built five-speed gearbox that is all internally modified to give the appearance of a stock Jaguar gearbox. An upgraded heavy-duty driveshaft and upgraded U-joints transfer all that power to a rear differential with a set of 307 gears for high-speed driving. Enhanced stopping power is provided by lightweight aluminum brakes up front and stainless-steel brakes at the rear, all of which are oversized. Enhancing all this power is a body that features doors, deck lid, and bonnet made from lightweight aluminum. So intense was the concern for weight in this Jaguar that it even uses lightweight competition Perspex headlamp covers, which are lighter than glass and are far more durable. This E-Type also has its convertible top and a removable aluminum hard top that’s finished in the matching body paint color. The entire body structure was also reinforced with multiple gussets at all critical stress points in order to ensure stability while cornering at any speed. The interior is finished in tan and features a custom removable steering wheel and correct toggle switches on the dash.

The Jaguar E-Type was always well-known for its Grand Touring comfort, but this build takes the entire GT concept to another level. Handling in this build is also greatly improved with electronic power steering and long-range touring is enhanced with a 25-gallon aluminum fuel tank. It’s also fitted with air-conditioning for driving comfort. Most impressive is that this Jaguar rides on Aluminum D-Type racing rims with triple knuckle spinner hubs that give it an aggressive stance. This is also an all-matching numbers car that also carries its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate.

Lot #82565

This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was acquired by the seller in 2016 and subsequently modified with aluminum bodywork, a lightweight close-ratio five-speed manual transmission, and Weber 45 DCOE side-draft carburetors. The car is finished in Opalescent Golden Sand over tan Connolly leather and powered by a modified 4.2-liter inline-six. Equipment includes a custom racing-style aluminum hardtop, 15″ three-ear knock-off wire wheels, four-piston aluminum front brake calipers, uprated stainless-steel rear brake calipers, 3.07 ratio rear gears, a Bell stainless steel big-bore exhaust system, a 25-gallon fuel tank, power steering, and air conditioning. This Series I XKE is now offered with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, a tool roll and jack, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The seller notes that an aluminum bonnet, trunk lid, and doors were installed during the refurbishment. The rocker panels were reportedly reinforced and the bodywork was media blasted and repainted in the factory Opalescent Golden Sand. A custom-fabricated aluminum hardtop accompanies the car, and additional features include a tan soft top and tonneau cover, triple-plated chrome bumpers and windshield surrounds, aluminum Talbot side mirrors, halogen headlamps with Perspex covers, and dual center-exit exhaust outlets.

Custom-built 15″ chrome wire wheels measure 6″ and 7″ wide and are mounted with 205/70 and 215/70 Pirelli Cinturato H8 tires. GAZ adjustable shocks and electric power-assisted steering were added during the refurbishment, as were aluminum front brake calipers, slotted brake rotors, and black electro-coated wheel mounting splines.

The seller reports that the door panels and bucket seats have been reupholstered in tan Connolly leather. Amenities include Clayton Classic air conditioning, an adjustable steering column, a padded center armrest, and roll-down windows.

The wood-rim steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 9k miles, approximately 3k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was rebuilt during the refurbishment and reportedly features lightened and balanced internals and a lightweight flywheel. Equipment includes triple Weber side-draft carburetors, a custom Mangolesi intake manifold, thermal-wrapped tubular headers, an aluminum radiator and custom expansion tank, an external oil cooler, and a custom CNC-machined high-volume oil pump.

The aluminum five-speed manual transmission was reportedly sourced from E-Type Fabs in the United Kingdom. A 25-gallon aluminum fuel tank was fitted during the refurbishment, as was a Bell stainless steel big bore exhaust system.

A tool roll and jack are included in the sale.

Photos showing the refurbishment are included in the gallery below.

A Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate is included in the sale.
