A lovely example of the improved Series 1 E-Type, this sleek roadster combines superb cosmetic quality with tasteful mechanical upgrades that results in breathtaking presentation and performance. According to its JDHT certificate, this car completed factory assembly on October 29, 1964, and was dispatched to Jaguar Cars in New York on November 16th for eventual purchase by Frank E. Gordon of North Miami, Florida.

In the early 2000s, this E-Type was discovered in a barn in Westfield, Massachusetts, and was subsequently acquired in 2003 by the consignor. Soon after, the consignor commissioned Jaguar expert Dan Mooney and his Texas-based restoration shop Classic Jaguar to conduct a thorough nut-and-bolt restoration that provided an upgraded level of performance while aiming for cosmetic authenticity.

The original matching-numbers engine was completely rebuilt, balanced and blueprinted. New high-performance camshafts, enlarged stainless steel valves, Venolia forged pistons and a lightweight alloy flywheel were installed, and K&N filters and a Ron Davis Racing aluminum radiator were fitted for improved performance. For better road holding and drivability, Classic Jaguar added a five-speed transmission (the original four-speed unit accompanies the sale of this car), Wilwood racing brakes, Koni shocks, upgraded torsion bars and wider, polished Dayton wire wheels mounted with Pirelli P4000 tires. Though exact dynamometer figures are unavailable, similar Classic Jaguar Stage One engine rebuilds have resulted in power ratings as high as 290 hp. One can safely assume that this fine example is capable of developing well above the standard horsepower figure of 265 hp, even though it has not been significantly altered from its original configuration.

Cosmetically, the E-Type also received a thorough recommissioning, including new seals and gaskets, and a new interior by Suffolk and Turley who are regarded among the finest of Jaguar upholstery specialists. Modern amenities include an iPod interface in the glove box which has been integrated with a correct vintage radio. The body restoration was finished with a stunning coat of authentic Opalescent Gunmetal Grey. Completed in December 2009, Mr. Mooney's work took two years to complete and totaled over $200,000 in receipts which are included with the sale of the car.

Since the restoration, this lovely E-Type has accrued minimal mileage and has been devotedly pampered in a climate-controlled environment. In preparation for its offering here, the car was returned to Classic Jaguar for a check-over and a brief servicing. Accompanied by its original four-speed transmission and stock steering wheel, as well as its JDHT certificate and a comprehensive photo record of the restoration, this handsome and desirable Jaguar roadster is optimally prepared for high-speed, spirited touring, as well as exhibition at concours and JCNA events.
