Seller's Description:

1965 Jaguar E Type Roadster (OTS)

A wonderful, restored Jaguar E Type roadster that is an absolute pleasure to drive, (I know, I've driven her myself for some thirty miles), this E type has undergone restoration some years ago, when over $100k was spent on her. As well, the present owner has spent some $30k on her over the last six years of his ownership.

The Jaguar E Type was as much, (if not more!) of a sensation when it was announced at the Geneva motor show in 1961. Following on from the Le Mans 24 Hour D Types, the E type was a logical, road going successor and it's sleek lines captivated all who saw them. The early E Types, though very desirable, had some flaws though. The early cars had flat floors, which did not make for a comfortable seating position. The skimpy seats didn't help either. The E Type still carried on using the old four speed Moss gearbox that had not been new when placed in the 1948 XK120... And the early 3.8 liter engines were known for their high oil consumption. All these problems were eradicated in the new for 1965 E Type. Now, a 4.2 liter engine replaced the older 3.8 and the result was more torque and yet more performance. The seats were improved and the floors were made deeper. New rocker switches replaced the old toggle ones in the cockpit and the headlights were made stronger. The biggest news was the new, Jaguar built all synchromesh 5-speed gearbox. At a stroke, the E Type was transformed into a true long distance in comfort cruiser but still with performance to beat anything else then on the road, if the need arose. And there were still the looks....

This particular car that we are selling is faultless. No squeaks, rattles or knocks, that tremendous growl from the twin exhaust when the accelerator is pushed down and a ride that would not disgrace any limousine of today. It is fitted with wider Dayton supplied wire wheels and new Pirelli tires. $135,000.

Price: $135,000

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
