This 1973 Jaguar E-Type is a Series III roadster that is powered by a replacement 5.3-liter V12 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car is said to have spent time in Texas before being acquired by the current owner in 1989. It is finished in red over a black interior, and equipment includes a black soft top, chrome front bumper overriders, 15” knock-off wire wheels, air conditioning, and an Audiovox cassette radio. Work performed in 2019 included replacing the connecting rod and crankshaft bearings along with the main seals, while the carburetors were rebuilt and the fuel sending unit, engine mounts, and carburetor choke cables were replaced in 2018. This Series III E-Type roadster is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with the removed air cleaners, service and owner’s manuals, a wiring diagram, service records, a copy of the Production Record Trace Certificate, and a clean California title.

Finished from the factory in Signal Red, the car was repainted in 2022. Chrome front bumper overriders reportedly sourced from a 1972 model have been added, and additional equipment includes a black soft top, exposed headlights, V12 badging, and quad exhaust outlets. The soft top was repaired in March 2018 and the seller states the door window seals were replaced in 2022 along with the rubber bumper trim.

Chrome-finished 15” knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in 205/75 Uniroyal Tiger Paw narrow whitewall tires. Braking is through four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears. The steering gear was rebuilt in 2017.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black and fitted with lap belts. Amenities include air conditioning and an Audiovox cassette radio. The turn signals and electrical system were repaired and the courtesy light switch was replaced in March 2018.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. Auxiliary gauges located in the center stack display battery voltage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 51k miles, approximately 6k of which were added by the current owner.

The replacement 5.3-liter V12 was fitted during prior ownership and is fitted with four Zenith-Stromberg carburetors with aftermarket mesh air cleaners along with an upgraded Hitachi alternator. The oil dipstick tube was replaced in 2017 and work performed in 2018 included rebuilding the carburetors, installing a gear reduction starter, and replacing the fuel sending unit and filler hose along with the choke cables and engine mounts. The oil pan was rewelded and the main seals and lower block gasket were replaced along with the rod and crank bearings in November 2019. The removed air filter housings are included in the sale.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission.

The Production Record Trace Certificate lists a manufacture date of April 19, 1973, along with factory colors and serial numbers.

Chassis number UDIS22603BW, the VIN on the title omits the “BW.”

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
