Listed for sale on Craig's List in Phoenix, Arizona. "1963 Jaguar XKE custom retro-mod. The drive line is a 383 stroker mated to a 700-R4. The motor contains the finest components: roller everything, forged crank, aluminum heads, aluminum radiator, electric water pump, electric fan, gear drive, 2-4 BBL carbs. The old Lucas electrical components have been replaced with an all new Painless Wiring Harness and a full complement of Auto Meter gauges. The custom built headers include 3" diameter pipes that will convince the judges at the Jaguar show that this is not a stock Jaguar. This all new drive train has about 6 miles on it. This was originally a CA car and it has never seen salt. The body is in excellent condition and has a fresh coat of two stage paint. All the bumpers and trim pieces have been rechromed. It has a new rubber body gasket set with some parts installed and others not. The car needs a new windshield and some headlight trim pieces. It comes with a complete set of Jaguar shop manuals. Sadly, the owner, who had $35,000, and numerous hours, invested in the project has passed away, and the family is selling his beloved project car."

Sellers description:
Original, Rust Free Black Plate California Car - A True Sleeper w/600hp!!
1963 Jaguar XKE Series 1 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe. This car started off as a clean, rust free original Black Plate California car that was in need of a restoration. It is currently being restored to be a true sleeper hot rod with a 600hp 383ci stroker motor. The car is about 80 percent finished with thousands of dollars and numerous hours invested in the project already. The car does not need much to finish and would be an easy project as most of the hard stuff has already been done and most of the money has already been spent. It runs and drives with only 6 miles on it. This car is scary fast and sounds like an animal!

The drive train currently in the car is a Chevrolet 383ci Stroker motor with dual quads pushing over 600hp that was fully rebuilt. It is mated to a fully rebuilt 700-R4 automatic transmission. The motor contains the finest components which include roller everything, forged crank, aluminum heads, aluminum radiator, electric water pump, electric fan, gear drive and two 4bbl carbs. The old Lucas components have been replaced with an all new Painless wiring harness and full complement of Auto Meter gauges. The custom built headers ending in 3" diameter tail pipes, will convince the judges at the Jaguar show that this is not a stock Jaguar. The all new drive train has only about 6 miles on it.

This was originally a California car so it is completely rust free. The body is in excellent condition and has a new two stage paint job done in beautiful Claret Red. All of the bumpers and trim pieces have been re chromed. It has a new rubber body gasket set, with some parts installed and others not. The car needs a windshield and some headlight trim pieces yet. I have the entire original interior mainly to be used for patterns for the new interior. It comes with a complete set of Jaguar shop manuals. So in all the car has all the pieces with all the pieces with a couple exceptions and just needs to be put together. I do not have a complete itemized list of parts for the car but 95% of the parts are there.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
