www.classicauctions.co.uk/car_entries_index.html

Auction description:
1972 JAGUAR E-TYPE V12 COUPE
ONLY ONE FAMILY OWNED CAR FROM NEW
Lot 1
Estimate £7000 - 8000
Mileage 124150
Colour RED
Trim Colour BEIGE
Chassis No IS51481
Engine No 7S8037SA
Registration No UTE365L
CC 5343
M.O.T JUNE 2006

The example we have for you today is the coupe which dates from 1972. It has been passed down through a single family for the past thirty years or so and to the best of their knowledge it has only ever been in one minor rear end accident in that time and anyway it was partially restored some twenty years ago. It is the much more desirable manual version and it is described as being in fair condition throughout, albeit with some clutch judder, but the mileage of 124150 is believed to be genuine from new.
It is currently tested until June this year and is ready to drive away with the road fund licence being current until the end of the month. Will they ever be this attractively priced again?

Car now offered at:

Seller's description:

1972 JAGUAR E TYPE V12

4 SPEED MANUAL

MATCHING NUMBERS

ORIGINAL REGENCY RED / TAN TRIM

ONE FAMILY + 1 OWNER

HISTORY OF THIS CAR

PURCHASED NEW ON THE 1st DECEMBER 1972 BY A MR RON BRYAN OF KING STREET TELFORD, WHO KEPT THE CAR TILL 1998, HE THEN PASSED THE CAR TO HIS SON MARK BRYAN, WHO THEN SOLD IT IN 2006 TO A MARK STOWELL, WHO KEP TILL OUR PURCHASE IN JULY 20222 , ALL CONFIRMED WITH THE OLD V5s.

THE OWNER MARK STOWEEL, WHO I PURCHASED OFF, WHO OWNED FOR OVER 16 YEARS, ALWAYS HAD THE CAR MOTd, AND SERVICED AT HIS LOCAL GARAGE IN DEVON, JON BEER AUTO SERVICES, WHO I AM TOLD WILL CONFIRM THE SAME.

OLD MOTs GOING BACK TO 1990, MILEAGE IN 1990 WAS 17,000 NOW SHOWING 26,000 MILES, SO ONLY COVERED 8,000 MILES IN 32 YEARS, I WILL ASSUME THIS IS 126,000 MILES , AS I HAVE NO IDEA PRIOR TO 1990 ?.

UNDERNEATH

WE HAVE HAD ON OUR RAMP, NO RUST AT ALL, BRAKE AIR DUCTS ALL IN ONE PIECE AND NOT DAMAGED OR REMOVED, AS ON MOST V12s.

PAINTWORK

RE-PAINTED SOME 20 YEARS AGO, THE PAINT IS IN FANTASTIC CONDITION, AND HAS A LIKE NEW SHINE.

CHROME

ALL VERY GOOD

INTERIOR

VERY GOOD, NEW CARPETS HAVE BEEN FITTED, HEADLINING VERY GOOD AND NO SAGGING, SEATS ARE ORIGINAL AND VERY GOOD

ENGINE & GEARBOX

GOOD OIL PRESSURE, FIRES UP EASILY, NO SMOKE, CHANGES UP AND DOWN THE GEARS, AND IS A JOY TO DRIVE.

IN SUMMMARY , A VERY USABLE CAR THAT WILL NEED NO SPEND TO USE INSTANTLY, AND BEING A GENUINE UK SUPPLIED MANUAL GEARBOX WILL ALWAYS FETCH A PREMIUM.

Lot 16A at Dore and Rees Spring Auction of Classic Cars at Frome on 11 March 2023. Sold for £37,500.

www.doreandrees.com/catalogue/lot/14663b0521ebea6d148f32118005834c/

  • Registration number UTE365L
  • Chassis number 1S51481
  • Recorded mileage 26,000 miles
  • UK delivered from new in RHD specification
  • More desirable four speed manual gearbox
  • Two private family owners from new, the first until 2006

First registered on 1 December 1972, finished in Regency Red with a Tan leather interior, and specified with a manual gearbox, this super original matching numbers example has been in the care of just one family for the majority of its life, with only one subsequent owner. Purchased new by Mr Ronald Bryan of the West Midlands, who kept the car for the next 27 years, then passing to his son Mark. He enjoyed it for a further 8 years before selling to the next and last owner, Mark Stowell in 2006. In his ownership the E Type was serviced and maintained by a local garage in Devon.

A detailed history file contains a number of MoT certificates dating back to 1990 at 17,000 miles, with a current mileage reading of about 26,000 miles. Whist we are unable to warrant this mileage, it is not inconceivable that this could be correct. We understand the paintwork was finished to its original shade some years ago and still presents very nicely, the chrome work is also in very good order. The original tan leather interior has been well preserved, and presents well with a more recently fitted carpet set. The E Type is completed with the original tool roll and jack and fitted with a period correct radio.

We understand the engine fires easily, coming up to good oil pressure with no smoke, the gears change correctly, and overall this is a very good driving example. All in all a very genuine example of the final development of the classic E Type design.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
