This lovely E-Type V12 was bought new by a West London vet in February 1972 and has had just two owners since, the current owner acquiring it in 2015 from a gentleman who had owned it for 38 years.
The car was expertly restored about 20 years ago by Gerald Watts of W&S Autos of Byfleet. This included stripping right back to bare metal, new panel sections where needed, a professional repaint in Midnight Blue and a thorough application of waxoil to all box sections and underneath.
In June 1995 the engine was also fully rebuilt with new pistons, liners, bearings etc. at a cost of £2,522 (those were the days!) since when it has covered around 22,000 miles, the odometer currently displaying some 94,000 miles which is said to be correct. Properly maintained throughout its life, the car has many receipts going right back to the '70s which show that it has regularly been treated to new parts whether they were needed or not, a testament to the care of the owners.
Always in regular use and a successful conqueror of all the major passes of Switzerland, Italy and France, it has various sensible upgrades including a high torque starter motor, uprated ignition amplifier, McLaren heat shielding to the transmission tunnel and a modern Alpine CD stereo system. All reassuring bits of kit when you are high up in the Alps and a long way from home!
A true Grand Tourer in the finest Jaguar tradition, this E-Type is due to have a new MOT in time for the sale and is ready for more adventures in the hands of a fortunate fourth owner. Even the number plate looks good!
