On auction at Paris by Bonhams Cars
cars.bonhams.com/auction/31696/preview-lot/6092524/1974-jaguar-e-type-series-3-v ...
Description:
• Delivered new to the USA
• Desirable four-speed manual transmission
• Present ownership in France since 2018
• All post-2018 service invoices available
One consequence of the E-Type Jaguar's long process of development had been a gradual increase in weight, but a good measure of the concomitant loss of performance was restored in 1971 with the arrival of what would be the final version: the 'Series 3' V12. Weighing only 80lb (36.4kg) more than the cast-iron-block 4.2-litre XK six, the new all-alloy, 5.3-litre, overhead-camshaft V12 produced 314 bhp (272 ch DIN), an output good enough for a top speed comfortably in excess of 140mph. Further good news was that the 0-100mph (0-160km/h) time of around 16 seconds made the V12 the fastest-accelerating production E-Type ever made. Built in two-seat roadster and 2+2 coupé versions, both of which used the long-wheelbase floor pan introduced on the Series 2 2+2, the Series 3 E-Type continued the Jaguar tradition of offering a level of performance and luxury unrivalled at the price.
Manufactured on 30th May 1974, this beautiful Series 3 E-Type roadster is a matching numbers example retaining its original chassis, engine and Regency Red exterior colour. Equipped with the manual transmission preferred by enthusiasts, the car was delivered new in the USA via British Leyland, New York City on 10th July 1974.
Since the current owner acquired the car in 2022, the E-Type has been serviced regularly by a local British-cars specialist in South of France, and comes with all the invoices relating to services undertaken over the last seven years. The car also comes with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate; French Carte Grise; an up-to-date Contrôle Technique; and an Expertise report. During our test drive on the motorway and on small country roads, we were able to appreciate the car's good handling at both moderate and higher speeds. We also noticed that the engine revved smoothly, that all the gears shifted well and that the car braked properly. This is probably the ideal car for country drives with the wind in your hair!
