This 1969 Jaguar E-Type/XKE is a Series 2 fixed-head coupe in Signal Red purchased by the current owner from a seller who had recently acquired a lot of Jaguars from a widow. The odometer reads 63,456 miles, which is assumed to be original based on the engine’s condition. This vehicle is a “scruffy” driver or a driving project car for others. Per the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, 1,047 LHD E-Type Series 2s produced in Signal Red, 202 fixed head coupes, were dispatched to the USA; the total is 807, of which there were 153 fixed head coupes. According to historical books, only 577 LHD FHCs left the factory with the “P” (power steering) prefix. All of this only adds to the rarity of this gem of a car.
The car has a four-speed manual transmission, a dual exhaust system, chrome 15″ wire wheels, power steering, air conditioning, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an aftermarket AM/FM cassette radio. It appears to have been the subject of a mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment circa Summer/Fall 2000 after finding OSJI markings on the door panels dated 09/14/2000. In August 2022, service and repairs included replacing the clutch master cylinder, clutch hose, master slave, battery, tires, cooling system hoses, alternator belt, fluid flush, and refill. Also, in April 2019, East Coast Jaguar, Inc. (Wilmington, DE) completed extensive maintenance and repairs. This E-Type/XKE coupe is now offered with an owner’s manual, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, service records, a workshop manual, a substantial parts lot and more.
The vehicle runs and drives. It was intended to be a daily runabout 20-30 miles per week, which only makes sense in the warm Southern Californian climate. The door panels and some exterior brightwork have been removed for cleaning/polishing, but they can be reinstalled upon request. Bubbling paint, minor dents, and paint chips are noted around the vehicle. The driver and passenger floor pans are rusted but feel sturdy.
Please find an abridged list as follows: Borg-Warner auto trans w/attached speedometer drive (S1-S2 2+2), S1.5 (OTS) cylinder head with cams and valve assemblies, original wire wheels (four-wheel set), NOS Smith gauges in original boxes (marked with 25-yr old prices of $105 and $115), complete S1.5-S2 instrument cluster with wiring, Triplex headlight glass and chrome surround, Trico wiper blade(s) with windshield wiper mechanisms, rear quarter Sundym window set (FHC), very good/excellent condition factory S1-S2 OTS/roadster tonneau cover, S1-S2 complete dash panels, “picture frame” assembled, S1 and S2 electric cooling fans, and more.
