Bought this car three years ago having always dreamed of owning one. Laid up two years ago with a clutch problem. Restoration starts in the Spring but it will be a long haul (but worth every pound and every second).

Only just started the restoration! Car being stripped down at the moment.

Work starts today on bodyshell. Welding and panel beating will take a few weeks to complete. First task is to cut out existing floor and weld in new one supplied by Martin Robeys.

Engine has now been returned rebuilt and tested. A very thorough rebuild completed including new pistons etc. Excellent job completed by XK and V12 specialist Nigel Boycott.

IRS returned today having been restored by specialist Alan Slawson. New floor installed and new engine frames trial fitted. Engine and bonnet also fitted to allow for panel beating and gapping.

A few weeks has turned into a few months for the welding and panel beating. That work has now been completed and the car sprayed. Engine and rear suspension have been re-installed. Now the long task of installing all the other parts in time for use in July.

Car was roadworthy just in time for my son's wedding in July last year (2014). Still have some interior work to complete. Just replacing the (new) clutch master cylinder that seized after only 570 miles of use. Discovered that the part was a poor quality copy. Am now fitting new OEM master and slave cylinders.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
