Private Sale
Horley, Surrey, United Kingdom
A handsome example of the iconic British roadster, presented in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition.
It is powered by a 4.2-litre straight-six, which is fed by triple SU carburettors and drives the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with synchromesh.
The odometer displays just 56,772 miles, which is believed to be entirely accurate and is backed up by the car’s maintenance history.
This Series 2 was first registered in August 1970, and was acquired by the seller 11 years ago.
Much of the car’s history is known, with the current owner being in contact with its previous keepers, who acquired the vehicle from its first owner in the late 1970s.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This E-Type is finished in what is believed to be its original hue of Pale Primose, and features a partially retrimmed interior, with new leather seats covers, replacement carpets and a renewed covering on the top of the dashboard.
It rides on the correct set of 15-inch wire wheels, which have been polished to a high shine and are in great shape.
While it is almost completely unmodified, the car does feature some minor enhancements, including its slightly smaller Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel, retro-styled stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, stainless-steel exhaust system, lightweight starter motor and 123 ignition system. However, all of the original parts will also be supplied with the vehicle.
This E-Type will be accompanied by its correct service manual and handbooks, documentation of its maintenance history and its Jaguar tool kit. It also comes with a red indoor car cover, plus a few new spare parts.
CONDITION
No known bodywork damage.
Having been previously resprayed, the Pale Primrose paintwork presents very well indeed, with only a few minor blemishes, including stone chips on the car’s nose and slight flaking of the paintwork on the inner edge of the rear driver’s-side wheel arch.
Furthermore, the convertible hood is very smart indeed, with no visible rips, tears or splits to the black vinyl fabric or the flexible plastic rear window.
Inside, the re-trimmed seats present very well, as do the recovered dashboard top and the car’s replacement carpets. Elsewhere, the remaining original trim items, buttons and switches are all smart, with a charming light patina but no noticeable damage.
There are no known electrical or mechanical faults with the vehicle.
While the last formal MOT test was in 2017, the car’s last safety inspection was carried out in May 2019 at 56,125 miles by CJ Services, which noted slight play in the upper steering column bearing, a minor oil leak from below the vehicle, a slight leak in the exhaust system’s centre joints and wear on the inner front tyres, while the nearside windscreen washer would benefit from adjustment.
SERVICE HISTORY
This E-Type’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in May 2019 at 56,125 miles by CJ Services, who changed the engine oil and filter, as well as checking the transmission oil.
Prior to this, the car was serviced on an annual basis by the seller, who recently replaced the front shock absorbers and the clutch slave cylinder.
During their ownership, the seller has also renewed the brake master cylinder, the spark plugs and the battery.
SUMMARY
This Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2-litre Roadster is a particularly smart example of the elegant British sports car, finished in a delightful factory hue and with low mileage from new. Described by the seller as driving extremely well, this E-Type should make the ideal companion for warm weather drives through the countryside, and will charm its next owner and onlookers alike.
