A COLLECTOR'S DREAM

Finished in classic English White with beautifully kept black leather interior and matching convertible top. This exquisite E-type was originally from Southern California and was beautifully and painstakingly restored by a prominent collector. It was then brought to St. Louis, where we sold it to its third owner, who garaged it and maintained it beautifully over the last 7 years. It recently underwent a complete mechanical overhaul, with over $15,000 spent on the motor alone! This is a spectacular example of what I personally believe to be one of the best investments one can make in the motoring world. For the most particular buyer who only wants the best, bid with confidence. This might be one of the best investments you will ever make.

Sellers description:
A completly restored Jaguar E-Type S II for sale. Everything is either new or rebuilt. Here is a little history on this car. In the early years, the car was in a California garage for a long time and hardly used. Then it was sold to a gentleman, who start bringing it to life again. After a while, he sold the car to a guy in Michigan, who always wanted an E-Type. At that time, the car was running rough and using oil and there was a lot of smoke coming out of the exhausts. He consulted the Jaguar Dealership in his hometown, they recommended an overhaul of the engine. That was done at 31362 original miles. I have the original paid bill over the amount of $ 15142.96, that included a complete brakesystem overhaul as well, and 4 new rear shocks, a complete reseal of the rear axle and new rear springs and u-joints. Now, you may ask, was that nessessary at the mileage of 31000 miles? Let me explain this later. After the car was on the road again, he found out nothing really had changed, except there was no more smoke, but the car still wasn't running right. He was so frustrated, he sold the car at an auction at a big loss. A car dealer in St. Louis bought the car, made nice pictures and praised the car as the best E-Type on the market and sold it to a gentleman in Alabama. He had some big repairs done by a good mechanic near his hometown, and he enjoyd the car very much. After 2 years, the mechanic sold his business to a joung guy, who had never seen an E-Type in his life. He screwed up the car pretty much, and another frustrated owner was born. When I saw the car the first time, and heard all the stories, I was going to back off on the deal. The engine ran like a bulldozer-engine, smoke everywhere. But I felt sorry for the frustrated gentleman and the car, and since I have restored several E-Types, I trusted myself, and wanted this car on the road again in perfect running shape. We made a deal and a got the car home. But, I was asking myself, why was that engine worn out at the mileage of 31000? I knew, I had to take the car apart, except for the drivetrain. First, I diagnosed the engine. Compression on all 6 cylinders were 175 lbs., that was a good sign, all the engine components, inkl. liners, pistons, rods, camshafts, crankshaft, valves etc. were new. No leaks on the engine anywhere. I started with the distributor, what a surprise, inside the distributor everything was rusted solid, no advance and no weight movement. I ordered a new fully electronic one and set the timing right - it was at 35 degree late! Installed new Bosch Platinum sparkplugs and wires. After that was done, I rebuild the 2 carbs with every component new. Here, I found out, why the engine was damaged. Both carbs were much too rich for a long time and diluted the motoroil. I set the carbs at the right level and voila, the engine came back to life with the nice smooth Jaguar sound, no smoke! And yes, the car original mileage is know 36000. Everything has been replaced in my restauration. New front shocks, new rear shocks and springs, radiator pressurized, new hoses, new alternator, complete rebuild of the booster and both masterbrakes have been rebuild too. rear and front brake caliper new or rebuild. New master-clutch and slave cylinder. Heaterbox taking apart and painted in and out. New heater valve. New voltage regulator, new idler pulley and new battery. Since the car has an electronic ignition, no more timing! Inside: both footwells were rusty - wet carpet - and banged up, so, I replaced booth footwells. Replaced the clutch spring. All the floors inside cleaned and primered and new insulated with soundproof material. New dashpod - the old one had a few cracks, new sideposts, all the instruments out, cleaned inside and checked for corrosion, all are working perfect. New turnsignal switch ($320), brand new custom made wilton carpet, new doorpanels, new chrome sills, new headlight switches. Except for the seat covers, everything else is new. New cloth top. New windshield. New gastank. New mufflers and stainless steel resonators. I wrapped the downpipes with heatwrap, to keep the temperature low under the hood. New Dayton wire wheels and new Falcon radial tires. The body is painted old English white and is excellent, no chips or scratches and is very straight, no dents etc. No rust anywhere. Chrome outside is either new or rechromed. Has a rack on the trunklid. It was never my intension, to sell this car after I finished the restauration, but I am getting older and have several other old cars to take care off, I start my downsizing with this one. This E-Type roadster needs absolutely nothing, fly in, jump in and drive off, everywhere you want. I restored 5 other E-Type roadsters so far, I know them very well and only used parts from a good supplier in CA, who carries all parts for this kind of car, no worries with spare parts. Car comes with owners manual and original jack. I have also a lot of receipts from all the work done.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
