This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 fixed-head coupe that was first registered in Seattle, Washington, and was acquired by the seller in 2002. The car is finished in yellow over a black interior, and power comes from a numbers-matching 4.2L inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car was originally delivered in Primrose Yellow and is said to have been refinished approximately 20 years ago under prior ownership. Additional features include a forward-hinged front clamshell hood, chrome bumpers with overriders, a driver-side mirror, a side-hinged rear hatch, and a polished dual-outlet exhaust system. The seller states that sheet metal around the driver-side footwell has been replaced due to rust, and bubbling is noted on the rocker panels and rear valance, as is corrosion on the lower area of the hatch. Additional blemishes include overspray, scratches, and paint chips.

Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with two-eared nuts and wear Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard rear rotors, and the front brakes are said to have been overhauled under current ownership. Stainless steel brake lines were also added, and the steering rack boots, tie rod ends, and rear springs were replaced.

The interior is equipped with bucket seats that are trimmed in black along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Interior features include an analog clock, a locking glove compartment, a heater, three-point seat belts, pop-out rear quarter windows, and a Kenwood AM/FM/CD player. The clock and the stereo do not work, and wear is noted throughout the interior, including discoloration and splits in the seat upholstery.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges mounted above the center stack. The five-digit odometer indicates 29k miles, approximately 8k of which were added by the seller. True mileage is unknown, and the brake warning light is said to blink sporadically while the car is being driven.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory rated to make 246 horsepower, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. This example has been fitted with triple SU carburetors, and a removed dual Stromberg setup accompanies the car as photographed in the gallery below. The seller states that the transmission has been rebuilt under current ownership, and other work is said to have included installing a spin-on oil filter conversion and replacing the motor mounts, distributor, alternator, voltage regulator, clutch, throwout bearing, and slave cylinder.

Engine block stamping 7E15567-9 matches the number listed on the chassis plate as well as the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

This 1968 E-Type Fixed Head Coupe is a Series 1.5 model, well-documented and offered fresh from an extensive E-Type specialist restoration by Doctor Jag Technologies in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Series 1.5 is identified by its open headlamp bonnet and classic small taillamp rear-end design, as Jaguar essentially used up existing stocks of Series 1 parts while the full-fledged Series II was being readied for production.

According to the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, this coupe was completed on Jaguar 3, 1968 and dispatched to Seattle, Washington for its first owner, Darlene Camille Patha, a modern artist famous for her vibrant and visceral paintings. She retained her beloved Jaguar until 1993, when she sold it to her Seattle neighbor, Michael Slomer. It changed hands again to Mark Morrison of Portland in 2002, well-maintained in original condition at the time. In 2021, it was acquired by Doctor Jag Technologies, who set about performing a complete restoration of the impressively solid, accident-free body, believed to have just 30,000 original miles.

Originally Primrose over black, the restorers selected this gorgeous factory-offered shade of opalescent silver blue over red leather trim. Refinements include an aluminum radiator, stainless steel exhaust, chassis stiffening kit, period correct Blaupunkt radio, chrome wire wheels, and much more. Accompanying documentation includes the Heritage Certificate verifying its engine number, original stamped owner's manual, receipts, and invoices for $50,000 in restoration parts alone, not including labor.

Completed in 2023, this freshly restored and beautifully detailed Jaguar is now ready for its next dedicated custodian to drive and cherish for years to come.
