Auction description:
Monterey Sports & Classic Car Auction
17 - 18 August 2007
Lot 598
1956 /66 Jaguar D-Type Alloy Recreation
High Bid of $75,000
Chassis no. 1E31400

The 1956 Jaguar - Long Nose D-Type with alloy coachwork offered here was created in 1999 by Dunford Design & Development Ltd. in the United Kingdom. Shipped in pieces, it was assembled, set up and tuned in the United States. The engine and transmission work was done by highly skilled craftsmen at Gran Turismo Jaguar, which included dynamometer testing and tuning.

Extensive documentation accompanies the Jaguar, which includes books, records, receipts and photographs documenting the entire conversion process. The donor car was a 1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe, which is verified by a Heritage Certificate of authenticity and its title.

Having been driven less than 1,000 miles since being completed, and possessing an assortment of performance upgrades, this D-Type re-creation is ideal for the enthusiast who cannot afford to add an original D-Type to their collection, or for the collector who owns an original D-Type Jaguar but is reluctant to take it out on the track. In excellent overall condition, this is a guilt-free car with tremendous upside for enjoyment.

Additionally, considering its power plant, and lightweight aluminum alloy body, this D-Type re-creation should be somewhat faster than the original D-Types as it has a larger, 4.2-liter Jaguar straight-six DOHC engine in place of the original 3.5-liter engine. Finished in the appropriate and failsafe color of British Racing Green, with a green interior and D-Type Dunlop pegged alloy wheels with knock offs wrapped in Dunlop 600L-16 Racing series tires, it is ready for both hairpin turns or fast straights. But ultimately, you can drive it safe in the knowledge that you can truly enjoy the feel of a great car and keep some money in your wallet.

Please note the D-Type is titled as a 1965 Jaguar based on its chassis.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
