This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a non-running Series I roadster sold new to Ronald Goldstein, of East Longmeadow, Mass. The car remained with its original family until last year, acquiring just over 8,000 miles before it was retired to the garage in 1972. The car is finished in black over black upholstery and is equipped with a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, chrome split bumpers, and a Blaupunkt Vienna push-button radio. The selling dealer acquired the car in October 2021, following several years of storage, and it will require further mechanical work before being operated. This Series I XKE project shows 8k miles and is offered with a tool kit and jack, a Thor knock-off hammer, a grease gun, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, a 1966-dated service invoice, and a clean Texas title.
The car was completed on October 6, 1965, and is finished in black with a black soft top. Features include covered headlights, chrome split bumpers with overriders, three windshield wipers, a black top boot, and polished central exhaust outlets. A 1972-dated Massachusetts inspection sticker is affixed to the windshield, and a steam cleaning and detail were carried out in June 2022. Exterior wear includes pitting on bright finishes, a tear in the soft top, and a discolored rear window.
Silver 15″ wire wheels are secured via two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 6.40-15″ Dunlop Road Speed RS5 whitewall tires. The wheels exhibit corrosion, and cracking is present on the tires. The car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, and the rears are mounted inboard.
The interior features black seat upholstery with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include a heater, a center armrest, a passenger grab handle, and a Blaupunkt Vienna push-button radio. Discoloration is present on the soft top headliner.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset analog clock, and centrally-mounted auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 8k miles.
The 4.2L twin-cam inline-six is equipped with triple SU side-draft carburetors and is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The selling dealer notes that the engine is currently not operational and will require mechanical attention prior to starting.
The cylinder head stamping, 7E6085-9, matches the number listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate below.
Documentation accompanying the car includes manufacturer’s literature, related books and paraphernalia, an August 1966-dated service invoice, and a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate detailing factory colors, serial numbers, and production information.
Photos showing the car as it was discovered in 2021 are included. The selling dealer notes that the vehicle remains non-operational.
Sold for $167,000 on 7/20/22
