2009 Calendars Order Now!

If you got here via the XK Data, Saloon Data, XJS Data, XJ6 Data or the Healey Data nav bar, this blog can't "live" on multiple domains as the blogging software doesn't support it. The items discussed below apply to all domains, and I'll endeavor to highlight items from all sites.

Parts Registry: Ideas?

It has been mentioned a few times over the years that it would be nice to have a parts registry for those serial numbered items–Engines, heads, gearboxes, and bodies–that we can determine are E-Type or XK items but which are no longer attached to the car they belong to. If the online registry ever approaches a critical mass, we may be able to determine what car number they belonged to and assign a tentative “this car may have been scrapped” tag to the number.

It might also be a useful resource (though one with very long odds) on reuniting an original component with its original car.

However, I’m not clear whether every numbered component (bodies aside) can be conclusively assigned to an XK or an E-Type. I don’t really have a desire to record all loose XK engines of the period (for example) if they could have been fitted to any of Jaguar’s numerous models. Thoughts are appreciated.
